Drive One For Your Community took place this past Saturday at Northland Ford in Flin Flon on behalf of the Northern Growing Abilities.

Mike Slipp on behalf of the dealership wants to thank the community for coming out and supporting the event. " Well it was a great day and once again the Tri Community area  came through for the non-profits. We were here for the Northern Growing Abilities who are in desperate need of a new kitchen in their facility for their clients. It was really well attended and people came down and had fun eating hot dogs and chatting with lots of great  people. They also were able to take test drives and with every test drive, Ford donated $30.00." 

Northland Ford is tabulating the numbers and will be announcing the totals very soon. Don’t forget you can help support the We Scare Hunger Campaign which is going on right now by stopping by the dealership with a non-perishable food item for the local Food Bank.

Northland Ford will also be accepting donations at Flin Flon Bomber games, Creighton Kodiak Football games and  all the schools right til the end of October.

The Denare Beach Village Council  has now implemented the Home Security Camera Program, a one time tax rebate of $100.00.

This is available to Denare Beach residents who currently have or are purchasing outdoor security cameras for their homes, and agree to register their cameras with the RCMP  and would provide footage on request by the RCMP.

Proof of purchase and  installation is required. Tax accounts must be in good standing to receive the rebate  and you can register at the Village Office.

There is also going to be a Community Update at the Village Office this Thursday September the 24^th starting at 7pm at the Denareplex.

The agenda will include Green Space Community Input, Red Cross Recovery Plan and Fire Smart Update.

It is a busy fall at the Norva Centre in Flin Flon with a lot of events taking place.

One of their biggest fundraisers is underway which is the Smalls Under 100 Silent Auction.

One of the Board members Karen Clarke talks about some of the pieces of Art up for auction. " Well Smalls is a new fundraiser for the Norva Centre and people may remember the Square Foot  Auction we were running. So every other year we have decided to change that up,  and this year we decided to go with Smalls. These  are  pieces under a square foot that are smaller and many of them are 5 by 7 or 8 by 8. We also have some three dimensional work, we have three beautiful little pots by Elaine Angelski, and four mugs by Sara Garinger. There is also a beautiful Racu  piece by Betty Fitz Simmons."

 There are over 50 pieces of art on display at the Norva Centre for you to bid on. The Auction is on now til October the 30^th at 2pm and once items reach $99.00, they will be sold. A reminder that Norva will be hosting a Meet The Artists Coffee House tonight between 7 and 9:30pm.

City of Flin Flon crews have been busy actively tidying up remaining tasks from the Summer projects as they transition into Fall.

City crews have been out backfilling along the new sidewalks which were installed last  Summer and this Summer, performing road grading and excavating around a Fire Hydrant on Tweedsmuir street.

The crews have also been collaborating with Maple Leaf Construction to sweep and prepare the roadways ahead of paving. Work continues on the Pine Avenue Bridge and is progressing well. McKeens are diligently working and have installed a bypass line for the creek to flow around the work site, and a temporary dam has been set up. Groundwork preparations are ongoing before installing the new culverts.

Another busy week ahead with roadwork, grading, Signage and general cleanup to continue throughout the community. The City will also begin their seasonal hydrant flushing program. Residents may notice water flowing along streets and into drainage systems during this process. This is normal and part of the routine maintenance of the City’s water distribution system.

The City of Flin Flon want to thank you for your patience as they wrap up Summer projects and prepare their infrastructure  for the colder months ahead.

There continues to be an increased police presence in Pelican Narrows.

Highway #135 has now re-opened to traffic.

The investigation continues to unfold  and  on September 21^st, Pelican Narrows RCMP received a report that a firearm was discharged at a vehicle. One of the vehicle’s occupants was treated at the local clinic for injuries described as non-life-threatening in nature.

Pelican Narrows RCMP began searching for an identified suspect vehicle and were able to lacate it.  They engaged the vehicle but it did not stop and was later abandoned on Highway #135 and the occupants  fled on foot.

No arrests have been made at this time. A search for the suspects continues with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team.

Investigators would like to speak with anyone who saw the suspect’s vehicle in the Pelican Narrows area late on September 20^th  or early on September 21st. It’s described as a 2016 black Dodge Journey with Saskatchewan license plate 894 KUG.

The Flin Flon Rotary Club is preparing for their biggest fundraiser of the year, the Rotary Dream Draws which will be taking place on Saturday November the 7^th.

Flin Flon Rotarian Cheryl Hilts talks about the history of the event and how you can get tickets. " The history go's way back, the Dream Draws are one of the Rotary Club's major fundraisers for our community. We are so proud of it  and we are so proud of the community for the support they have shown us as we sell out every year. We hope to continue that tradition going forward. The tickets are up for sale and you can contact one of your local Rotarians, if you haven't done so already. We also have tickets for sale at the Victoria Inn and Kleen All."

The price will remain at $100.00 and they have added three trips to this year’s line-up which include Churchill, Niagara Falls and Elkridge Resort. There are 799 total  tickets up  for sale .

The draws will take place during a Social at the Flin Flon Community Hall with the theme once again this year ,  Come Dressed Like You Are On Vacation. Doors open at 7:30pm with the first draw at 9pm.

The Social will feature the band On Alert and it is free to attend.

This Thursday, September the 24^th has been declared as National Resilience Day across Canada.

Resilience becomes real when we recognize the people behind it. Whether it is someone rebuilding after a loss, a care giver standing beside a loved one, a first responder helping a neighbor, a family confronting illness or an ordinary person helping someone else through an extraordinary  moment.

The deadline is Wednesday September the 23^rd at 5pm, and it will be shared and celebrated as part of National Resilience Day.

Nature is a great recycler and you can take advantage as the Green Action Centre of Winnipeg will be in Flin Flon to present a Backyard Composting Workshop next week.

The Recycling Centre Administrator Deb Odegaard has more:  " Well we are really excited that the Green Action Centre had money to come and present a Backyard Composting Workshop here. They have had them all over Manitoba and are experts in the field,  and we are excited that they are coming to talk to us about it. It is at City Hall this  Thursday at 6:30 pm and we will have some information available. We are planning n taking a walk to the Community Garden, we will play a game and there will be snacks."

Composting wins in many ways including turning kitchen scraps into Garden Fertilizer so you can save money. Food waste is able to stay out of landfills preventing the production of Methane, an extremely potent Greenhouse Gas.

The Flin Flon Credit Union has been an active community member for 80 years and has made a commitment to support many initiatives    to bring economic stability to the community.

The Community Enrichment Program is open for any community focused projects in Flin Flon, Creighton and Denare Beach.

The criteria for applying for the Grant includes any community project that will have a lasting impact. Will bring the community together to celebrate the Region’s future in the North, promote partnership with existing community members. Aids in human  development and skills training in the North. It will also include planning and research projects that focus on future investment within the Region.

Applicants will be eligible for funds up to $25,00.00 towards their Economic Development Initiative.

We are getting closer to the Municipal Election which will take place in Flin Flon on Wednesday October the 28^th.

The City of Flin Flon will be required to elect a Mayor and six Councillors for the years of November 2026 to November of 2030.

Voting location will be open on Wednesday October the 28^th from 8am to 8pm at Flin Flon  City Hall, Council Chambers.( That includes all polls from 1 to 11).

ID may be required before you are allowed to vote.

If you are unable to vote on October the 28^th, there will be an advanced poll on Wednesday October the 21^st from 8am to 8pm at Flin Flon City Hall Council Chambers.

Mobile voting will also be available for anyone living in a health care facility or Senior’s Housing. Mobile stations will be set up at Rotary Court, Legion Housing, Hemlock Housing and the Flin Flon General Hospital on Election Day.

You will also be able to vote by a sealed envelope in the mail.

If you aren’t able to go out and mail in person,  you can  apply in writing to the Senior Election Official no later than three days before the election.

On September 9^TH,  Flin Flon RCMP received a report that a male known to them that had been involved in an assault, and  was spotted walking down Third Avenue.

Officers began patrols for the suspect and he was spotted shortly after. As they approached in the police vehicle, the suspect fled and continued to hide from police.

Patrols continued, with the suspect later located walking through a business parking lot on Church Street.

Officers approached to place him under arrest, but the male was combative and after a short struggle with police, he began to run. A short foot pursuit ensued with the suspect eventually surrendering.

While transporting the 32-year-old male to the detachment, he continued to be unruly and threatened officers.

The male, from Flin Flon was remanded and faces multiple charges including assault to prevent or resist arrest.

Great news is you are a fan of live music. The 18^th year of the Home Routes Series is set to get going at the Spencer’s Home in Flin Flon next Wednesday September the 23^rd.

They have featured acts from all over the country from coast to coast and one of the organizers,  Elly Spencer lets us know who is going to be here next week. 

" The first act is a young woman from Red Deer Alberta and her name is Ashlee Ghost Keeper. She is a Metsic Country Artist who has been writing her own songs since she was 8 years old. It sounds quite exciting that she is coming all this way to perform."

The show will start at 8pm at the Spencer’s home at 19 Hemlock and you can just show up at the door. Tickets are $25.00 and if you need any additional information you can send an e-mail timelly1@gmail.com.

Trails Manitoba is an independent group who raise money to help support trail groups within Manitoba.

They have a Conference once a year that they call Trail Talks where they engage trail people and give them information that is appropriate to what they are working on.

Leslie Beck is one of the people on the Board and says they suggested they come up to Northern Manitoba this year.

They have agreed to hold it in Northern Manitoba and Beck provides the details of the tour. " So we were able to make the suggestion that it would be great if they could come do this in the North. Fortunately in the Pas they have UCN and they were able to get a bus and go pick up a bunch of people all over Manitoba. They are going to tour the trails in The Pas at Clear Water Lake, Cranberry and up here in Flin Flon. They will be going back to Cranberry where we are going to be having a mixer and then back to the Pas for a full day on Saturday to listen to speakers. Saturday night they are going to head to the Buffalo Farm and have a Bison supper."

The Flin Flon and Area Against Sexual Exploitation Committee invites everyone in the Flin Flon and surrounding area including Men, Women, Children and Grand Mothers to come out to the annual Grandmother’s Walk.

It takes place this Monday September the 21^st and Crista McIntire talks about the purpose of the walk. " We hold this event every year on September the 21st, the Fall Equinox. It is in support of the Grandmother's Council who initiated this walk. We follow the wisdom of Grandmothers and we walk together to raise awareness to protect children from sexual exploitation." 

The event will begin with a Pipe Ceremony at 4pm with Elder Margaret Head, then the walk will begin at 5pm at the Northern Neighbors Flowers down Flin Flon’s Main street. There will also be a land acknowledgement and various speeches and entertainment.

There will also be a Grandmother’s Walk in Cranberry on Tuesday the 22^nd with everyone meeting at the Cranberry Elementary School parking lot at 5:30, and the walk will begin at 6pm.

The Flin Flon Station Museum inducted two groups into their Wall Of Fame which included Tom and Betty Dobson and Gerry Clark. The ceremony took place on Monday afternoon.

Deputy Mayor, Alison Dallas Funk personally thanked the Flin Flon Fire Department for their donation from their Boot Drive last Friday. A total of  $15,000.00 was raised and will be donated to the local food bank.

The City has approved an agreement for the Aurora and Bistro to once again run the Flin Flon Curling Club Lounge effective October te 13^th of 2026 to March the 31^st of 2027.

There were members from the Caring For Our Community Group in attendance who wanted clarification on the City building a public washroom on Flin Flon’s Main Street.

The City said they are discussing it and are looking at different factors including location and community safety. This will be tabled and they will make a final decision soon.

City Administrator Officer Joy Kapyk wanted to remind residents that if you arn’t sure you are on the registered voter’s list for the Municipal Election coming up on October the 28^th to give the City a call at 1-833-210-6435.

Northland Ford will be holding another Drive One For Your Community Event this Saturday in support of Northern Growing Abilities.

Mike Slipp talks about the history behind the event. " Well Drive One For Your Community is an initiative started by Ford Canada. We did one erlier in the Spring and made $44,00.00 for the SPCA , and this time it is for Northern Growing Abilities who need our help to build a new kitchen. So this Saturday you come in and take a test drive and for every test drive, Northland Ford will donate $30.00 to Northern Growing Abilities. It is a fun day and you can test drive any new Ford we have on the lot."

It takes place between 11am and 3pm and there will be people from Northland Ford and Northern Growing Abilities on hand serving hot dogs and drinks. There is no obligation to buy anything, just come on down to the dealership to support this great event.

A precautionary drinking water advisory has been issued for the Denare Beach Water Distribution System, North of 7^th avenue in effect til further notice.

Water Security Agency protocol is to place water distribution systems  under a precautionary Drinking Water Advisory for Fire Hydrant maintenance that causes a depressurization.

The precautionary Drinking Water Advisory may be rescinded by the Water Security Agency once the  system has been pressurized, flushed and two clear water samples have been received.

Notice will be provided to Denare Beach residents once this occurs.

Cranberry Portage is getting ready to celebrate their Centennial in 2028 and preparations have begun on how to celebrate this momentous milestone for the community.

Barb Bragg mentions what they have going so far. " We have Brady Cable who is a teacher  at the Elementary School,  has established a Facebook page which is Cranberry Portage Centennial 2028. He is going to be managing that site trying to generate pictures and stories that can go into a pictoral storybook of Cranberry Portage from 1978 to 2028. The reason he is doing that 50 year period is because at 50 years there was a pictoroal book created that had the first 50 years."

The Facebook page, Cranberry Portage Centennial 2028 will be the official site with anything that happens with the Centennial planning. They will also be holding a meeting on November the 4^th, 6pm at the Cranberry Museum.

This is open to anyone who is interested in stepping up and would like to  bring some ideas and help them with the planning on how Cranberry will look in 2028.

On Monday, September 14th, the  Flin Flon Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at a residence in the South Hudson area.

A total of 11 firefighters and 4 Fire Trucks  arrived at the scene.

Upon arrival, Command found that all occupants had safely exited the residence. EMS treated one male occupant on scene for smoke inhalation.

The residence was heavily filled with thick smoke, making it difficult for crews to immediately locate the source of the fire. Firefighters conducted a primary search of both the main floor and basement, locating the fire in a basement bedroom.

A lack of oxygen within the affected area helped prevent the fire from rapidly spreading to the remainder of the structure. Crews extinguished the fire in the bedroom and conducted checks for fire extension into the surrounding walls and the floor above.

Crews completed operations on scene and returned to the hall. After completing resets of all trucks and equipment, crews were back in service later that evening.

A popular event and fundraiser for the Flin Flon Food Bank has started at Northland Ford.

We Scare Hunger normally doesn’t start til October, but Northland Ford decided to start the event early this year. Mike Slipp on behalf of the Promotions Department explains how you can take part. " So what happens is we have for the last 11 years ran the We Scare Hunger Campaign. We collect food down here at the Northland Ford dealership for the Food Bank. If you can't bring a food donation down here,  you can give us a call and we will come and pick it up. So it is a big deal and the Tri Community area has come through for the last 11 years with some great donations."

The event will take place right til the end of October and besides dropping off food at the dealership, Northland Ford will also be out picking up food at the schools, Flin Flon Bomber games, Creighton Kodiak Football games and they will be setting up at the CO-OP again this year.

New North is an  advocacy group in  Northern Saskatchewan  elected by different  officials right across the region who represent all 35 Municipalities. They advocate with both the Provincial  and Federal Government on bringing different programs and services  to the North.

Creighton Mayor Bruce Fiddler is the East Side Director and Vice Chair representing all the East side Communities including Creighton, Denare Beach, Sandy Bay and Pelican Narrows. New  North has just  hired a new C.E.O, Terry Lynn Beaver-eye who will be in both Creighton and Denare Beach today.

Fiddler talks about the purpose of the C.E.O’S visit. " She has been in the North for many years and is very familliar with Northern issues.So she is travelling around to all the communities and introducing herself,  and getting the community and council's thoughts on what New North should be doing or not doing."

The meeting will take place at Creighton Town Hall this afternoon and on September the 25^th their  AGM will take place in Prince Albert where are members of the Municipalities can bring their issues to the Board. They will then move forward in what ever direction they feel is necessary.

A reminder that if you were affected by the 2025 Saskatchewan Wildfires,  there will be in person support later this week at the Creighton Sportex Lounge.

It will take place this Wednesday September the 16^th to Friday September the 18^th and Monday September the 21^st from 9am to 4pm.

Once again there will be one on one assessments, rebuilding with insurance , financial assistance and referrals to community services.

Art Unexpected was a project that was started up to bring comfort and connections to families who lost their home in last year’s devastating wildfires.

This is in support of families in Flin Flon, Creighton and Denare Beach, where artists and donors would contribute original artwork, prints or generational art to people who lost their homes.

Sissel Bray stopped by the CFAR studio on Friday to discuss how the donations went and how the art will be distributed. " So how this is going to work is over the next week or so,  we are going to unbundle all the Art and make sure it is ready for display. Then on Friday September the 18th from 4 to 8pm at the Flin Flon Community Hall,  it will be open to the public to come view the Art. There will also be Artwork that is going to be put up through a Penny Parade that is open to the public. There will also be a raffle which is a large piece of Original  Art that is open to the public as well."

Then on Saturday the 19^th,  they will open up at 1pm to the public where you  will be able to come in and buy Penny Parade tickets and raffle tickets. The registered individuals who experienced loss will be eligible for door prizes. The draw will begin for the artwork that is being distributed  at 2pm and the draws will be random.

It all takes place at the Flin Flon Community Hall and a big thanks to everyone who donated art from all over the Country and beyond, it is much appreciated.

As Denare Beach continues to recover and rebuild , more residents are returning to permanent housing and the need for temporary housing is decreasing.

Some temporary housing units from Collins Street in Creighton will be removed and returned. Support for displaced residents will continue and residents may notice increased activity, including contractors, equipment and transport vehicles.

You are reminded to keep safety in mind which will include staying out of fenced and restricted areas, obeying all posted signs and site directions and watching for moving vehicles and equipment.

The Village of Denare Beach thanks everyone for working with them as they are committed to supporting residents as the rebuilding efforts continue.

Community Futures Greenstone in conjunction with the Flin Flon Public Library have come together to form a makerspace shared workshop at the Library.

They are calling it Flinty’s Market and they will be holding their grand opening next week. Library Administrator Lisa Slugoski tells us they have been working on this for a while. " We actually did some strategic planning with Greenstone last year in the Spring and one of the goals for us was to create a Maker's Space. Greenstone already had a lot of this equipment sitting there and they said why don't we bring it over to the Library. We can set it up in the back room and it can be a Maker's Space for the community to use. Hopefully we can get more people to come and use this equipment as it is free and we just want more people to use it."

The Grand Opening will take place next Thursday 3 to 6pm at the Library. You can use all the tools and supplies free of charge, so you bring the project and the Library will provide the space to build it.

COUNCIL RECEIVED AN INVITATION FROM THE CANADIAN RESILIENCE NETWORK TO RECOGNIZE SEPTEMBER 24TH AS NATIONAL RESILIENCE DAY. THIS PERTAINS TO COMMUNITIES OR PLACES THAT HAVE GONE THROUGH TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCES SUCH AS WILDFIRES,FLOODS, AND EVENTS OF THAT NATURE. IT'S ALSO ABOUT RECOGNITION OF THOSE COMMUNITIE BUILDING BACK. A MOTION WAS PASSED TO ACCEPT THE INVITATION. IN ADDITION THEY REQUESTED COUNCILS ASSISTANCE TO IDENTIFY THREE TO FIVE LOCAL STORIES OF RESILIENCE, AND COUNCIL HOPES TO SPEAK TO A FEW PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN SHARING THEIR STORY.

COUNCIL ALSO RECEIVED A REQUEST FROM HAPNOT COLLEGIATE FOR USE OF THE CREIGHTON FIELD FOR THE ZONE SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP ON OCTOBER 3RD. COUNCIL AGREED TO THE REQUEST.

Orange Shirt Day will be recognized across the country on Wednesday September the 30^th.

The purpose is to honor Residential School Survivors, remember  the  children who never returned home and support the message Every Child Matters.

The day will once again be recognized in Flin Flon with a gathering at the Friendship Centre at 11:45am.

The walk will begin at noon making it’s way to Pioneer Square for 12:15 for a special ceremony. There will be an opening drum song and prayer with Elder Margaret. There will also be a Land Acknowledgement with Teresa Wride.

The afternoon will also include messages from Flin Flon City Council, a minute of silence , a song from the Silver Evening Star Singers and a closing prayer.

Wrapping up the event there will be refreshments and the unveiling of the plaque Walking The Home Trail Of Truth.

With most students returning to class this week, the Manitoba RCMP is reminding parents, caregivers and motorists to take the necessary precautions to ensure students stay safe.

For motorists, road safety is paramount – particularly in areas around schools. It is up to motorists to do everything they can to ensure the safety of those around them when driving in school zones. This includes: watching for lower speed limits, looking out for crossing guards, stay alert and don’t drive distracted and always stop for busses when they are flashing red lights at an extended stop sign.

Additionally, parents and caregivers are encouraged to talk to their children about basic tips to stay safe when walking or riding to school. This includes: walking the safest way to school, walking on the sidewalk or away from the roadway, putting devices away and be alert when walking, wearing fitted helmets when driving a bike or scooter and crossing at marked crossings or crosswalks.

Keeping students safe is a responsibility that all of us share. Driving safely and ensuring your child knows what to do – whether it be on the walk to school or while surfing online – will go a long way towards ensuring students have a safe and productive school year.

In late August,  Flin Flon RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver on Dominion Avenue.

Information was received that a male was driving a truck erratically, ran a stop light and appeared to be falling asleep behind the wheel. It was then observed that the male then switched seats with a female passenger who began to drive the truck.

Officers immediately began patrols for the vehicle and located it shortly and initiated a traffic stop.

Officers arrested the 36-year-old female and the 38-year-old male both for impaired operations and she was also issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition. The other passenger, a 53-year-old female was released without charge.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered the truck involved in the incident had been reported stolen.

The male, from Saskatoon received a ticket under the Highway Traffic Act for driving while disqualified and is facing  multiple  charges.

Flin Flon RCMP continue to investigate.

This past Saturday  Deschambault Lake RCMP received a report of a missing 42-year-old male, Ernest Ballantyne.

Ernest was last seen at approximately 3 p.m. on September 5^th  at a camp on Viney Lake.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft System and Search and Rescue, Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue, the Search and Rescue Saskatchewan Association of Volunteers (SARSAV), the Civilian Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA), the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency and community members are amongst those assisting in the ongoing search in the Viney Lake area.

Deschambault Lake RCMP are now asking members of the public to report information on Ernest’s whereabouts.

Ernest is described as:

• Height: 5 ft 6 in
• Build: medium
• Eye colour: brown
• Hair colour: brown
• Other descriptors: missing some teeth

Preparations are underway for the local Ham Sandwich Theatre group’s fall production of Dracula.

It begins tonight with auditions starting at 7pm at the Flin Flon Community Hall. The production will be directed by Susan Gunn Saray and she explains the inspiration behind the local theatre group giving this a try.

" Dracula is something that has been in my blood for decades you might say. Probably since I found my dad's copy of Salem's Lot when I was about 10 or 11 years old and that is what kicked off this fascination. I read the original novel when I was to young to understand it completely. Dracula and Vampires is something I have been interested in for a while."

They will be looking for between 6 to 8 people to appear in the show and will also need backstage people including Painters, Carpenter’s and people that can make costumes and props.

If you are interested in being involved make sure you head to the Flin Flon Community Hall tonight. The show will be performed on November the 20^th and 21^st.

Super Tuesday is back at the Flin Flon Alliance Church and this will be a new bible study that will include a dinner, Bible  study and a chance to have a discussion as a group.

Pastor Claude Marais says this is a study that may change your life. " Come fall we like to host some good Bible Studies. What we are having this year is a Bible Study that was compiled by John Bevere that is called The Awe of God. It will run for about two months or maybe longer depending on the interaction we get with individual people. We want to be thorough with this because we think it is important for the Church as a whole."

The evening starts with a dinner at 6pm, then at 6:45 you will head up to the Main Hall for a study. There will also be a break for Dessert around 7:45 with the evening ending at around 8:45pm.

If you are looking to be able to handle a firearm legally in the Flin Flon area ,  there is going to be another Possession and Acquisition License course coming up in October.

Ryan Gray is the instructor and he explains what he will cover in the course. " The course covers safety, which is a very big part. We look at the different types of action and we also look at some of the storage and transportation of firearms. You also need your Possession and Acquisition License to purchase ammunition for the different firearms that you own. Of course you will need a license if you are going to inherit, lend or sell a firearm."

The course is $175..00 and is open to anyone over 18  and will take place at the Creighton Community Hall on October the 16^th and 17^th.

A teenaged male was arrested in Creighton in relation to a robbery investigation.

On September 2^nd,  Creighton RCMP received a report of a suspicious male on Creighton Avenue.

Investigation determined a male approached two individuals outside, demanded their personal belongings, and threatened them. The male was wearing a face covering and was armed with a knife. The male then left on foot. No physical injuries were reported to police in relation to this incident.

Shortly after officers responded, they located and arrested the male suspect nearby. Officers seized a knife that the male had in his possession.

As a result of investigation, a teenaged male from Creighton, SK is charged with multiple offenses including one count of robbery with a weapon.

Since the teenaged male is under the age of 18, he cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The teenaged male appeared in La Ronge Provincial Court on September 3^rd.

Flin Flon RCMP assisted in this investigation.

With this new position now in place, residents can expect to see the Director of Bylaw out and about throughout the streets and neighborhoods of Flin Flon. A key responsibility of this position will be ensuring that City bylaws are followed and that the  community remains safe, clean, orderly, and welcoming for everyone.

The  Director of Bylaw, Planning and Enforcement will also be responsible for ensuring properties and yards are maintained in accordance with City byalws.

Residents and property owners are expected to keep their yards and properties clean, tidy, well-maintained, and free from excessive accumulation of debris, waste, of materials that may negatively affect the appearance or enjoyment of our neighborhoods.

Denare Beach elected a new Mayor  on Wednesday.

A By-Election was needed as long time Mayor Carl Lentowicz who held the position for the last 33 years passed away in February.

Karen Thomson a long time resident and Councillor has been elected as the new Mayor and is just the third in the Village’s history.

Karen received 120 votes with Dale Holmgren coming second with 85, followed by  Jennifer Hysert with 49. The Village want to thank all three individuals for running and were very happy with the voter turn out.

With Thomson being elected,  the Village will have to have another By-Election to fill Karen’s  spot on Council.

The Village will announce a date for that at their next Council meeting which is taking place on Wednesday September the 16^th.

With Fall approaching,  the Flin Flon  Community Safety and Well Being Steering Committee continue to work hard to get a program into place to make the streets and neighborhoods safer around our  community.

Mike Slipp who helps chair the committee talks about the progress that they are making. " Well we are continuing with the folks from the Canadian  Centre For Safer Communities who we have been working with for months now.  They are completing their engagements with committee members and asking them their thoughts on the status of Flin Flon's safety and well being. They are finishing up with the Northern Health Region and business owners. I know they have been talking to a bunch of people on engagement."

On October the 6^th members from the Canadian Centre for Safer Communities will be in Flin Flon to meet with members of the steering committee directly and discuss their findings from a recent online survey and find solutions moving forward.

The results of that meeting will be put together in a report that will be released for public viewing on the City of Flin Flon website and Facebook page.

On August 23^rd , Cross Lake RCMP were notified after a body was discovered in a wooded area in the community of Pimicikamak Cree Nation.

Officers attended the scene and located the body of an unknown individual.

An autopsy confirmed the body to be that of a 17-year-old female from the community who had been reported missing on August 22.

The victim had last been seen by family on August 17.

Her death has since been deemed suspicious and is being investigated by Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services (MCS).

Manitoba RCMP MCS and Cross Lake RCMP continue to investigate.

More by-laws were passed at the latest  Flin Flon City Council meeting at Council Chambers this past Tuesday.

The City has amended a by-law to relocate a bus stop sign on Flin Flon’s Main Street from the Post Office to in front of the Library. This went to a third reading and is now passed.

First reading was given for the proposal for a Combination tax to  be increased from 5 to 7%. This is applied to anyone who stays in a hotel. Motel, B and B or short term rental. This has been repealed and a Public Hearing will now  take place later this year  to give citizens a chance to voice their opinions and concerns.

Mayor George Fontaine and Deputy Mayor Alison Dallas Funk will be attending the 2026 AMM Cities Caucus Meetings in Winkler later this month starting on September the 24^th.

Members of the Caring For Our Community group were in attendance and were looking for responses for their questions which they had e-mailed to the City regarding the duties of the new by-law officer, the latest information  from the Community of the Whole meeting and they have requested building a new public washroom on Main Street.

More information and an open discussion will take place at the next City Council meeting.

Preparations continue for Flin Flon and areas 100 year celebration coming up in 2027.

Celebrations are being planned for the entire community including the Flin Flon Bombers, HBM&S and Hudbay Minerals.

On Aug. 28^th,  RCMP arrested six people at a property on the 300-block of 7th Avenue South in Swan River as part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.

The RCMP’s Swan River General Investigation Section (GIS) executed multiple search warrants – first at the residence, then at outbuildings and vehicles associated with the property. GIS officers were assisted by Swan River RCMP, the RCMP West District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team, the RCMP West District GIS and Police Dog Services.

Six people were arrested at the scene without incident.

Carla Slepicka, 49, of Swan River is charged with:

• Drug trafficking; and

• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Wayne Cook, 45, of Sapotaweyak Cree Nation is charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Michael Matsakoff of Swan River  is charged with drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

Lawrence Severight, 56, of Cote First Nation in Saskatchewan is charged with multiple offenses including drug possession.

Two people – Dustin McDuff, 45, of Swan River and 22-year-old Kaylee Keefe of Kenville are both charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The investigation continues

Flin Flon is getting ready for a Municipal Election on October the 28^th and Community Futures Greenstone,  and the Flin Flon Chamber of Commerce want to make sure you know what to expect.

They will be hosting two Pre Election Information sessions that will include a lot of information on how the whole election process works. General Manager Becky Cianflone has more. " So we are offering two different opportunities, one is virtual by Zoom taking place tonight between 7 and 8pm. The second session  is in person and at Flin Flon City Hall on Thursday starting at 6:30pm."

The NRHA are calling on Mothers, Fathers, Brothers, Sisters, Friends, Cousins, Aunts, Uncles, Grand Parents, Sons, Daughters, Nieces and Nephews to come out and recognize International Overdose Awareness Day.

The event has been rescheduled for tomorrow and the NRHA’S Christa McIntire explains the history behind the event and what will be taking place in Flin Flon. 

"So International  Overdose Awareness Day is an annual campaign held across the World on August the 31st. The purpose is to hopefully end drug overdoses and also to remember those that have died and acknowledge the grief of family and friends. We invite everyone to come out to our event and we are going to have free food, entertainment, Naloxone training and we will also have information sharing."

It takes place at Pioneer Square between noon and 1:30 pm and is being held in conjunction with the Play It Safer Network and Manitoba Harm Reduction Network.

On August 28th, at approximately 3pm., Shamattawa RCMP were called to an assault at the Northern Store in the community.

Officers immediately responded to the scene where they located a seriously injured male suffering from what appeared to be a serious stab wound.

The initial investigation determined the male suspect, who was known to the victim, was still on the scene and was arrested without incident.

The 36-year-old victim was transported to the local nursing station where he succumbed to his injuries.

Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services (MCS) deployed to the community and took charge  of the investigation.

Rodney Beardy, 58, from Shamattawa has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to the male’s death and remains in custody.

Manitoba RCMP MSC, Forensic Identification Services continue to investigate.
