Kings And Queens Come Up Short In Thompson

The Senior Hapnot Kings and Queens travelled down to Thompson this past weekend to defend their Zone titles in soccer.

The Queens were 2-0 in their pool beating Norway House 13 to 0 and MBCI out of the Pas 4 to 0.

That put them in the final against OCN and the Queens  lost that game 2 to 0 against a very physical OCN team which put an end to multiple Zone titles for  the Hapnot Girl's team.

The Queens may still get a chance to go to Provincials as they have applied for a Wild Card and if they get picked they will get a chance to go.

The Kings went 1-1 losing their first game to Moose Lake 1 to 0 before rebounding with a 1 to 0 win over Cross Lake.

This got the Hapnot Boy's team to the finals and they lost to an experienced Thompson team 3 to 0.

Thompson and Cross Lake will now represent the North for Provincials which start next weekend in Minnedosa.

Bombers Take 3 Out Of 4 Points Against the Wolves This Weekend

The Flin Flon Bombers wrapped up the weekend with their strongest performance this season going into Laronge and dumping the hometown Ice Wolves 5 to 2 on Saturday.

Keefe Gruener once again led the way with a pair of goals and now has a team leading 4 on the season. Newly acquired Ryder Ringor scored his second in as many games with Evin Bossel and Koen Senft rounding out the scoring.

This was Bossel's first ever SJHL goal and he had a lot of chemistry with his two 17 year old linemates in Wyatt Stinton and Leo Seitz. They were a force all night and look like they have a very bright future in junior hockey.

Laronge got their two goals from Zane Normand and David Vitt.

Massimo Urbani picked up his first SJHL win and only had to make 12 saves as the Bombers dominated the Wolves all night and held them to just 2 shots in the third period.

Logan Falk was much busier and stopped 41 and suffered the loss after stopping 39 out of 42 the night before in the Laronge OT victory.

This was a big improvement from the night earlier where Laronge was able to knock off Flin Flon 4 to 3 in OT Friday in a game which the Bombers turned the puck over steady in their own zone.

Mike Reagan commented on the CFAR Post Game Show Saturday that they watched video and had some meetings with players before boarding the bus , and they were all on the same page and knew they had to play much better.

This was one of the most dominant efforts I have seen from the Bombers in Laronge as they took it to  the Wolves for the entire game,  and did an outstanding job blocking shots and throwing the body which was something I never saw from them in their first three games.

This also gave the team some much needed momentum for their Southern Swing which will start tomorrow in Yorkton against a very strong Terriers team.

After the weekend Yorkton is a perfect 4-0 and have out scored their opponents 22 to 8 and look to be a much improved team this year playing with a lot of confidence.

Flin Flon beat the Terriers in all 6 meetings last year, but a lot of the games were close with Yorkton holding leads in many of those games but couldn't find a way to finish.

It looks like a lot different Yorkton club this year and it should be a very interesting game tomorrow night.

Flin Flon improves to 2-1-1 after the weekend and trail the defending league champion Melfort Mustangs by 3 points for first in the division.

We won't be broadcasting any games from the road trip and our next broadcast is Saturday October the 12th from Melfort.

Bombers Tangle With The Wolves

The Flin Flon Bombers will return to the ice tonight after a 5 day break as they will face another Sherwood Division opponent.

Flin Flon faces off with the Laronge Ice Wolves in a home and home at the Whitney Forum tonight at 7:30 and back at the Mel Hegland Uniplex tomorrow for an 8:30 start.

The Bombers are 1-1 after knocking off Nipawin in their  home opener Friday night 4 to 3 before getting beat by the defending league champion Melfort Mustangs 6 to 2 on Saturday.

The Wolves are 1-0-1 and almost beat the Mustangs last Friday before going into Nipawin and upending the Hawks on Saturday 3 to 2.

Laronge is getting great goaltending from both Logan Falk who they picked up from Kindersley and new comer Graham Brown who both have a save % of over .900 coming into tonight.

Flin Flon will get a bit of a break tonight  as one of the more talented Laronge  forwards   Jacob Cossette  will not be in the lineup as he will sit out his second game for a check to the head which came against Melfort last Friday.

Mason Bueckert will play tonight and is still looking for his first goal of the year after putting up two assists in the first two games. Bueckert put up good numbers against Flin Flon last season scoring 7 goals in the 6 head to head  matchups.

Flin Flon is excited to welcome back Reid Arberry to their lineup  who has battled injuries both last season and early this year,  as he got hurt in training camp and wasn't able to suit up for any preseason games.

Arberry will make his season debut tonight and only dressed for 17 games last year putting up 4 points including 2 goals.

The Bombers are also very excited about the edition of 20 year old forward Carter Cormier who brings in over 100 games experience  as a junior player, most recently with  Black Falds where he put up 9 points in 18 games.

Cormier will help carry the mail with the injury to Carter Anderson who is expected to miss the next few weeks. Anthony Piccininno will also make his season debut tonight and will be counted on to put up big numbers this season.

The big thing for Flin Flon heading into the weekend will be to tighten up in their own zone. The threw the puck away too much in their own end and didn't do a good job in helping out their goalie Kenny Marquart especially in the Melfort game.

The Mustangs were able to crowd Marquart where he couldn't see a lot of the shots and the Bombers didn't block many shots or keep players in their lanes. Flin Flon will have to be a lot more responsible in their own zone or could be on the end of some bad scores again this weekend.

Laronge likes to play physical and are deeper than they were last year and are playing with confidence to start the season. A good start tonight will be vital.

We will have the broadcast tonight on FLO TV and return to radio tomorrow from Laronge and  hit the air with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 8:10 and drop of the puck at 8:30 Manitoba time.

Bombers Look To Bolster Offense With New Forward

The Flin Flon Bombers are 1-1 to start the young SJHL season and

picked up a nice addition to their hockey club with the signing of 20 year old forward Carter Cormier.

Cormier brings a lot of experience to the Bombers having suited up for over 100 junior games with the Brooks Bandits, Selkirk Steelers, Bismarck Bobcats and Blackfalds Bulldogs.

His best season was in Selkirk in 2022-23 when he put up 52 points in 45 games and was named the MJHL'S Rookie Of The Year.

Cormier will be in the lineup this weekend when the Bombers face the Laronge Ice Wolves in a home and home tomorrow and Saturday.

The timing couldn't be any better with an injury to Carter Anderson that will keep him out of the lineup for a few weeks, so Cormier should help fill the void.

You can catch Saturday's game from Laronge on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 8:10, Manitoba time.

Hapnot Senior Queens Volleyball Team Off To A Great Start

It was a great start to the Senior High School Volleyball season as the Hapnot Queens made their way down to Elton this past weekend.

The Queens finished 5-1 in the round robin with wins over Killarney 2-0, Goose Lake 2-0 and they split with Gab Roy 1-1.

They went on to beat the Rivers Rams 2-1 in the Quarters before losing to Elton in the Semi's 2-0.

That put them in the third place game against Major Pratt out of Russell and they pulled out a hard fought win in three sets to finish third against a lot of talented Southern schools.

Next up for the Queens will be a tournament in Roblin the weekend of October the 4th and 5th. The Senior Kings will also be attending that tournament.

Bombers Go 1-1 To Start The Season

It was an up and down weekend for the Flin Flon Bombers who kicked off the SJHL regular season on Friday.

The Bombers welcomed the Nipawin Hawks to town in their home opener on Friday and fired 63 shots at Hawk netminder Tyson Endall and hung on for the 4 to 3 win.

You have to give this young Nipawin team a lot of credit, even though they were heavilly outshot their goaltender allowed them to hang around all night.

The Flin Flon veterans were the difference in this one with Koen Senft, Kylynn Olafson, Carter Anderson and Austin Montgomery Parsons all finding  the back of the net.

Nipawin's goals came from Finley Radloff, Jack Jansen and Carter Anderson who has the same name sake as his Flin Flon counterpart.

Kenny Marquart started in goal for the Bombers and picked up the win with 17 saves on 20 shots.

The Bomber powerplay struggled going 0 for 5 but they did score a shorthanded goal courtesy of Kylynn Olafson. The Hawks were 1 for 3.

Flin Flon was hoping to carry the momentum into Melfort on Saturday as they would make their way to the Northern Lights Palace in a rematch of this past Spring's Canterra Seeds Cup Final.

There was a lot of electricity in Melfort on Saturday as they would raise their Championship banner and the players and staff received their rings.

It looked good for Flin Flon early as they would open up the scoring while they were short handed 3 on 5. Keefe Gruener intercepted a pass at his own blue line and raced down the ice and beat Mustang goalie Kristian Coombs low glove side.

The Bombers couldn't build off that and despite getting some good chances struggled with their offense the rest of the night.

Nichols Andrusiak tied the game late in the first period when he fired a shot from the blue line with a ton of traffic in front of the Bomber net. Kenny Marquart never saw it.

That gave the Mustangs life and they reeled off 4 goals in the second period to take control of the game courtesy of Jake Giacobo, Logan Belton, Bo Eisner and Reilley Kotai.

Keefe Gruner did pick up his second of the night on the powerplay, but the Bombers struggled to get anything else going against the defending champs.

Flin Flon Gave Kenny Marquart the third period off and he left the game making 14 saves on 19 shots before Massimo Urbani came in for the third and  stopped 7 out of 8.

The only shot to beat him was Logan Belton's second of the night when he was left alone in front of the net on the powerplay.

Christian Coombs picked up his second win of the year making 26 saves on 28 shots and was really good when he had to be. One save that stands out was on Carter Anderson early in the game on the powerplay.

There was a scary moment in the game when Joey Lies got hit by Nolan Roberts in the corner in the second period and appeared to be knocked out before hitting the ice.

EMT'S and medical personnel  from both teams assisted to got Joey off the ice safely and it was reported after the game that he was doing fine.

Melfort improves to 2-0 and the Bombers will slip to 1-1 and won't play til the weekend when they take on the Laronge Ice Wolves in a home and home.

Laronge comes to Flin Flon on Friday and the Bombers head to LA on Saturday which will be our next broadcast of Creighton Furniture Flin Flon Bomber Hockey. It all begins with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 8:10 MB time.

Bombers Prepare For Hawks As SJHL Regular Season Starts Tonight

The SJHL will open the regular season tonight with 10 of the league's 12 teams in action including the Flin Flon Bombers hosting the Nipawin Hawks.

Both these two teams will look significantly different especially up front with the Hawks only returning 4 forwards from last year with the Bombers bringing back seven.

You could argue that these two teams had the deepest forward groups up front from across the league last year, so there will lots of holes to fill for both teams.

The Hawks will be led by Finley Radloff who was third in team scoring last year with 39 points in 50 games and Eric Hoiness who had 32 points in 55 games.

Nipawin also only has one returning defenseman in Henry Smith but are very excited about a lot of the new recruits that they have brought in and should be one of the youngest teams in the league.

My feeling is that Nipawin may take a few lumps early in the season but as these youngsters get accustomed to playing in the SJHL, should be a fun team to watch not only this season but for many years to come.

The Bombers are looking to go in a different direction as according to Head Coach and GM , Mike Reagan they are re-tooling and not rebuilding. Saying that they have a lot of offense to replace with Justin Lies, Jacob Vockler, Alexi Sylvestre, Noah Houle and Riley Niven moving on.

The good news is that Carter Anderson is back and he established himself as one of the most dominant and exciting players in the league last year.  Anderson had 62 points in 40 games and led the league in powerplay goals with 22.

Anyhony Piccininno is back after a decent season last year with 39 points in 50 games as well as second year forward  Koen Senft. The Bombers are also excited to have back for their fourth season in the Maroon and White in Kylynn Olafson and Cole Tanchuk. One of those players is expected to be named captain this year.

Kenny Marquart who has been waiting to be the starter after backing up Harmon Laser Hume the past couple of seasons is ready for his new challenge.

Marquart had very good numbers in backing up Laser Hume last year  and ended up going 16-3 with a 2.17 GAA and 4 shutouts.

Some of the new faces the Bombers are excited about include forward Rhett Ewen who he picked up from Laronge and local products Ryder Mucha and Wyatt Stinton.

The Bombers were also able to pick up veteran forward Ryder Ringor who should be able to play in their top 6. Ringor comes from the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the BCHL where he put up 38 points in 65 games and makes his Bomber debut tonight.

The Bombers have had the Hawks number the last few seasons and beat them in all 6 meetings last year and have won 17 of the last 20 head to head matchups.

Remember this is a new season and the Hawks are very excited about the prospects that they have recruited and brought in.

Game time tonight is 7:30 and we are rarin to go with Creighton Furniture Flin Flon Bomber Hockey as we  kick off the new season with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10.

We will also be in Melfort tomorrow for a rematch of last year's exciting SJHL Final and you can catch all the action beginning with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 8:10 and drop of the puck at 8:30 MB time.

Kodiaks Knock Off Hague 24 to 12 In High School Football Action

Another big win for the Creighton Kodiak football team yesterday in Hague as they prevailed 24 to 12.

The Kodiaks were able to avenge a tough loss against Wakaw the previous week and this was a complete team victory with everything coming together on offense, defense and specialty teams.

One of the big factors in yesterday's game was when the Kodiaks recovered a kick deep in Hague's end which led to a touchdown and gave Creighton the momentum early.

The Kodiaks also dominated Hague physically and played one of their best defensive games in many years.

Head Coach Ryan Karakochuk had this to say about yesterday's win. " I thought we had a really good week of practise and we watched a lot of game film  coming into this game we were locked into what Hague was going to do. We knew exactly what plays they were going to run and our defense really shut the door. They played really hard as it was a very physical game. The two big differences were opponent and game planning from the previous week. I thought we were ready to go and we knew how big of a game this really was. If we wanted to make Provincials for the first time in a Southern Conference we had to win this game and I thought our guys did a really good job.

The Kodiaks were led offensively by Matt Lavis, Josh Trumbley and Kaleb Lycan  who all had majors. Rogan Hlady kicked three converts.

Creighton improves to 2-1 with both of their wins coming on the road which is the first time ever,  a Northern team has won two games on the road in the South.

The Kodiaks will now get a bye week and return to action on October the 3rd when they host Shellbrook.

Kodiaks Off To Hague

The Creighton Kodiaks will kick off week three of the  Saskatchewan High School  Football League when they travel to Hague today.

The Kodiaks are 1-1 after beating Shellbrook in week one 36 to 34 but lost their home opener last week to Wakaw 32 to 8 after a disasterous second quarter.

Hague is 1-1 after beating Shellbrook and losing a tight game to Wakaw 38 to 26, so today's game is a big one  that could dictate playoff implications.

Kickoff is at 2pm Sask time and we will have updates today on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.

After today's game the Kodiaks will have a bye week and get back on the field for October the 3rd when they host Shellbrook.

Round robin will continue throughout the weekend with the finals at 5:30 on Saturday.

The Senior Hapnot Queens start their season in Elton and play their first game Friday against Goose Lake at 4pm.

They will play two more games on Friday against Killarney at 6 and Gab Roy at 7. Playoffs start Saturday morning at 9 with the final at 4.

Message From The Flin Flon Ski Club

submitted by Flin Flon Ski Club

The Flin Flon Ski Club would like to draw the public's attention to two issues that are impacting the quality of our ski trails.

Certain individuals have been using quads and side by sides on the ski trails to go from place to place. The problem is that quads create large ruts in the trails which lead to water damage. They also create more work, since these ruts have to bee filled in with extra snow to prevent unsuspecting skiers or trail groomer skis from falling into the ruts. We ask quadders to stay off of the marked ski trails.

The second issue is people cutting firewood along the trails. Saskatchewan Conservation advises that a cutting permit is required to cut wood, and they will not issue permits for these areas. Last spring 23 standing trees were cut along the Valley trail.

These trees help to retain snow along the trails and add to the visual beauty of the trails. People should not be cutting wood on or along the ski trails.

Thank you for your consideration in helping to preserve some of the best ski trails in Western Canada. Our volunteers put in hundreds of hours of work annually to maintain these trails for enjoyment of the general public.

Up And Down Weekend For Hapnot Soccer Teams In Swan River

The high school soccer season has start as both the Hapnot Kings and Queens made their way down to Swan River this past weekend.

The Hapnot Queens look very strong and won all three of their games beating Dauphin 3 to 0, Swan River 2-0 and Thompson 1-0.

The Kings unfortunately dropped all three of their games to Dauphin, Swan River and Thompson.

This was a good tune-up as both teams  will prepare for Zones which will take place in Thompson the weekend of September the 27th and 28th.

Both Hapnot teams are the defending Zone champions and look forward to defending their titles.

Blizz Down Bombers In Another Shoot Out

Another tight game in the battle of Northern Manitoba this past Friday night.

The Northern Manitoba Blizzard shook off an early 2-0 deficit and came back to beat the Bombers 4 to 3 in the shootout.

Flin Flon started well and scored two goals before the game was even 5 minutes old.

Brett Ewen got the Bombers on the board with a powerplay goal, then Pierce Yakimchuk followed that up with a quick release from the point only 29 seconds later to put Flin Flon up 2-0.

The powerplay goal by Ewen was the first given up by the Blizzard in the entire pre-season as their PK is as good as I have seen in a long time.

Around the midway point of the first period, the Blizz settled down and started to get some chances. Sam Zagari cut the lead to 2-1 when he took a nice pass in front of the Bomber net to beat Kenny Marquart low stick side.

The Blizzard scored the only two goals in the second period and both were on the powerplay courtesy of Lucas De La Salle and Marlen Edwards. The Bombers didn't have an answer for Edwards all night as he was able to generate chances every time he was on the ice. He is a very gifted skater and always gets to the net to provide pressure.

Down 3 to 2 entering the third period, once again Flin Flon would have to play catch up. They would tie up the game with less than two minutes remaining in regulation when second year defenseman Luke Lepper beat Blizzard netminder Taye Timmerman high blocker side.

Lepper has now scored in three straight pre-season games and looks like a real stud out there and should be able to provide some much needed offense from the back end.

The overtime  settled nothing and once again these two teams would decide it in the shoot-out.

Once again the Bombers couldn't solve the Blizzard tender as Timmerman would turn aside all three Flin Flon shooters in Ryder Mucha, Leo Seitz and Koen Senft.

The Blizzard only needed one goal and they got it from Quincy Supprien who made a nice deek on Kenny Marquart.

Final shots through overtime were 37 to 34 Blizzard who went with two goalies including Alexander Reedy who stopped 8 of 10 before giving way to Taye Timmerman who stopped 23 of 24.

Kenny Marquart went the whole game for Flin Flon and made 33 saves on 36 shots.

Flin Flon will finish the pre-season at 3-0-0-2 while the Blizzard finish at a perfect 5-0.

Now both teams will prepare for the regular season as the Bombers will play their home opener against the Nipawin Hawks on Friday before heading to Melfort on Saturday.

Friday's game will start at 7:30 and the game in Melfort will kick off at 8:30 Manitoba time and will both be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.

The Bombers have also announced that they have added 2007 born left handed defenseman Emerson Clark from the WHL'S Brandon Wheat Kings. Clark has spent the last two seasons with the Saskatoon Blazers of the Saskatchewan Midget Triple A league helping guide that team to back to back championships.

In 68 regular season games Clark picked up 2 goals and 22 assists.

Kodiaks Drop Home Opener To Wakaw

It was a tough  second quarter that cost the Creighton  Kodiaks High School Football team  in their home opener yesterday against the Wakaw Warriors losing 32 to 8.

Creighton came in with some momentum after knocking off Shellbrook in the season opener the week before.

It looked like the Kodiaks were going to open the scoring with a 50 yard touchdown run, but the major got called back for a holding penalty and Creighton couldn't get back on track.

After a scoreless opening quarter, the Kodiaks started to turn the ball over and gave up 26 straight points in the second quarter  and had a huge deficit coming out for the second half.

The Kodiaks made some adjustments and played very well on defense and out scored Wakaw 8 to 6 in the second half. The only Wakaw major came when Creighton turned the ball over just outside their goal line.

Creighton got their lone  touchdown courtesy of Ethan Lavis who scored on a 20 yard run on the reverse. Rogan Hlady kicked the convert.

Ryan Karakochuk took some solice that his team played better in the second half. " Yeah I was pretty animated in the half time with the team and I wanted to see what type of guts we had and win the second half and we did that. I thought we could of clawed back even more, we got stopped at the three yard line with a fumble going in.  We can take some positives out of this but at the end of the day you have to play four quarters to win and we didn't."

Creighton falls to 1-1 on the season and will take the rest of the week to regroup and get ready for Hague next Thursday at 3pm Manitoba time.

Blizzard Upend Bombers In A Shootout

The first round of the battle of Northern Manitoba go's to the Northern Manitoba Blizzard who picked up the 3 to 2 shootout win last night over the Flin Flon Bombers  at the Roy H Johnston Arena.

This was a very entertaining hockey game that was high octave and both teams were flying all night.

The Blizzard came out and had the Bombers back on their heels for much of the first period and got rewarded with the first goal.

Local product Isaac Tomchak was able to deflect a puck past Kenny Marquart to open the scoring midway through the first.

It stayed that way til the second period when veteran Keenan McNeill picked up a puck in the corner and walked right out in front of the Bomber net to beat Kenny Marquart up high over his right shoulder.

This was a powerplay goal that gave the Blizzard the 2-0 lead after two. It looked like that may be enough as Flin Flon had a tough time mounting offense and putting a puck past Alexander Reedy.

The Bombers did come out and play a great third period and finally got rewarded when Luke Lepper snuck a shot through traffic in front of the Blizzard net.

This gave the Bombers some confidence and second year defenseman Connor Ryan tied the game with less than three minutes remaining in regulation.

Ryan took a nice pass from Joey Lies and fired a shot past Reedy who got fooled on the quick release.

The rest of regulation and the 5 minute overtime settled nothing, despite the fact the Bombers got a 5 on 3 late in the game which carried them to the extra period.

Alexander Reedy stopped everything in his path in ot  and would up with 43 saves on 45 shots and was the best player on the ice.

Cheechoo Lathlin,  who is a former Bomber was the only player to score in the shootout when he buried a puck under Kenny Marquart's left pad.

This sent the hometown crowd into a frenzy as they always look forward to the games against Flin Flon.

The Blizz remain perfect in the pre-season at 4-0 with the 3 to 2 shootout win, the Bombers will fall to 3-0-0-1.

Kenny Marquart played well for Flin Flon and made 24 saves on 26 shots.

The difference in this game was special teams with the Bombers going 0 for 6 on the powerplay including two 5 on 3's. The Blizzard went 1 for 4.

The battle of Northern Manitoba will now switch venues and make it's way to the Whitney Forum on Friday night for a 7:30 puck drop.

Once again you can listen to all the action on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com beginning with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10.

Bombers Come Back To Beat Mustangs And Remain Unbeaten In Pre Season

The Flin Flon Bombers were able to exact a little revenge on the Melfort Mustangs after losing to them in the league final just a few months back.

The Bombers who trailed 1-0 after two periods last night , mounted the comeback and came back to beat Melfort 2 to 1 in pre season action last night at the Northern Lights Palace.

This was an all rookie affair as the Mustangs were playing their first pre season game and Flin Flon improved to 3-0.

Eric Han got the Bombers on the board with his first goal of the pre season at the 6:44 mark of the third period.

Flin Flon would get a late powerplay and also pulled the goalie to go 6 on 4 and it worked as Leo Seitz would score with just over 5 minutes remaining and that stood up as the game winner.

Seits was one of the Bomber key signings this year and played the last couple of years with the Saskatoon Blazers of the Sask U-18 AAA program.

Melfort got their lone goal from Walker Overwater midway through the second period.

Massimo Urbani got the start in goal for Flin Flon last night and the Bombers wanted to see what he could do as he only had to face three shots in his last game against Laronge on Friday.

Urbani stood tall and made 25 saves on 26 shots. Josh Henry got the start for Melfort and he played well stopping 25 out of 27.

Next up will be the battle of Northern Manitoba as the Bombers will face off with the Northern Manitoba Blizzard. The Blizz are also 3-0 in the pre season and are coming off one of their most successful years in recent memory.

The first game will take place at the Roy H Johnston Arena in the Pas this Wednesday at 7pm, before heading back to Flin Flon for the rematch at the Whitney Forum on Friday at 7:30.

Both games will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com with the pre game show both nights starting 20 minutes before puck drop.

Bombers Take Down The Wolves

After a sluggish first period on Friday night, the Flin Flon Bombers found their rhythm and took care of the Laronge Ice Wolves 7 to 3.

The Bomber vets shined with Anthony Piccininno leading the way with 5 assists, Carter Anderson picked up 2 goals and an assist and Keefe Gruener found the back of the net twice.

Other Flin Flon goals came from Luke Lepper, Joey Lies and new comer Charlie Blake.

Laronge got their goals from Ryan Silzer, Hudson Cameron and Nolan Smith.

After a tough first period where the Bombers were outshot 17 to 13, Flin Flon was able to hold the Wolves to just 5 shots over  the next two periods and ended up out shooting Laronge 45 to 22.

Both teams had success on the powerplay with Flin Flon going 3 for 6 and Laronge 2 for 4.

Both teams also used two goalies with the Bombers starting  veteran  Kenny Marquart who stopped 16 of 19 before making way for Massimo Urbani who only had to stop three shots in his direction.

The two Laronge goalies were much busier with Max Fowle allowing 4 goals on 19 shots and Joe Verardi stopped 23 of 26.

The Bombers will improve to 2-0 in the pre season while Laronge falls to 1-2. Flin Flon did dress a lot of their vets while the Wolves left some of their better players at home  including Jacob Cossette and Maeson Bueckert.

Flin Flon will now head to Melfort to face the Mustangs on Monday night in a rematch of this past spring's SJHL final. This will be the Mustangs first pre-season game so I am assuming they will dress a lot of rookies.

After the game in Melfort on Monday, the Bombers will prepare for the battle of Northern Manitoba with the MJHL'S Northern Manitoba Blizzard. The Blizzard are coming off a very good season in which they were just one goal away from going to the league final. They have looked outstanding in the pre-season with three straight victories including a 12 to 1 win over the Swan Valley Stampeders on Friday night.

The games will take place in the Pas on Wednesday at the Roy H Johnston Arena, then back at the Whitney Forum on Friday night. Wednesday's game will start at 7 and will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com with the pre game at 6:40pm.

We will also broadcast Friday's game at the Forum with the pre game at 7:10.

Kodiaks Knock Off Shellbrook In Season Opener

It is a great start for the Creighton Kodiaks 6 man football team who went into Shellbrook yesterday and picked up a hard fought 36 to 34 victory.

This is the second year that the Kodiaks are competing in the 2A Division who will try to improve on their 1-4 finish last season and obviously a win on the road yesterday will go a long way in doing that.

Creighton pulled out the come from behind win yesterday in a game that went back and forth throughout the afternoon.

The Kodiaks trailed by 8 points with just over 4 minutes to go, tied the game and went ahead on an interception with just over 2 minutes remaining.

Shellbrook could of tied the game with a late touchdown of their own but failed to tie it when they missed the two point convert.

Head Coach Ryan Karakochuk says it was a very emotional win.

" What a game it was,  and I thought on paper we had a really good chance with our seniors and some of the players they lost from last year. We were definately more physical then them from start to finish and we pushed them around for a good part of the game. Unfortunately we started to turn the ball over and allowed them to take the lead late. With 5 minutes left we came back and tied it, them took the lead to win it and held them off. We are starting to learn how to play,  adapt, how to win and how to finish games."

Creighton was led offensively by Peyton Pelletier who had a pair of touchdowns, Mathew Lavis who scored on a 50 yard pass, Rogan Hlady and Josh Trumbley who scored on a 30 yard run.

On the defensive side of the ball, Quinton Lycan led the way with 17 tackles.

The Kodiaks will now prepare for their home opener which is supposed to go next Thursday at 4 VS Wakaw. The game may have to be moved to Friday with an announcement expected later today.

Wakaw is also 1-0 after beating Hague in their opener yesterday 44 to 30.

Team Maroon Doubles Team White 6 to 3

Flin Flon Bomber Main Camp wrapped up this afternoon with the annual Maroon and White game.

In front of a decent crowd Team Maroon picked up the 6 to  3 victory.

Kylynn Olafson led the way with a pair of goals and an assist and was a cross bar away from getting the hat-trick and wrapped up a very impressive camp.

Veteran Keefe Gruener and new comer Austin Parsons with a pair of goals rounded out the scoring. Parsons played last year for the Wellington Dukes of the OJHL and picked up 27 points in 43 games,  and might be able to help with some secondary scoring this year with a lot of high octave forwards graduating from last year's team.

Team White goals came from Carter Anderson, Leo Seitz and John Delverne.

Anderson was the best Bomber at camp and looked more like a player trying to make the team as guy that already earned a spot.  Anderson was flying throughout the weekend and may even be faster than he was a year ago.

Seitz was one of the Bomber signings from Spring Camp and he looked good all weekend. Delverne comes to the Bombers from the U-18 US National team and didn't look out of place.

Team Maroon went with two goalies including 20 year old Carson Rennie who is looking to land a spot after spending last year in the PJHL with the Prince Albert Timberjaks. Rennie was in Flin Flon last year backing up Harmon Laser Hume after Kenny Marquart was suspended for 7 games midway through the season.

I thought he had a good camp and deserves a look. Rennie stopped 15 out of 16 before giving way to the clear number one Kenny Marquart who stopped 9 out of 11.

Team White went with Massimo Urbani who gave up 4 goals on 14 shots. Urbani played in the BCHL with Nanaimo and Powell River. Noah Davis came in relief and stopped 17 out of 19 shots.

Davis was in the SIJHL last year with the Red Lake Miners and put up decent numbers going 13-5 with a 2.53 GAA and a save % of .911. It will be interesting to see who Mike Reagan decides who will be the backup.

The Bombers made a handful of cuts after the game this afternoon and get ready to jump on the bus as they will head to Laronge on Monday for an all rookie affair.

Head Coach and GM, Mike Reagan indicated that they will make the majority of their cuts after their first pre-season game in Laronge tomorrow. Game time will be 8:30pm, Manitoba time.

Flin Flon will host Laronge in the rematch this Friday at the Whitney Forum with puck drop at 7:30.
