There is going to be an opportunity for all Flin Flon Minor Hockey players to come out and develop their skills this Sunday.

It is open at all players in the U-11 to 18 divisions and includes skaters and goalies.

Bomber Road Trip Continues Tonight In Estevan

The Flin Flon Bombers will try to get back in the win column tonight in Estevan  after dropping a 3 to 2 decision in Weyburn on Wednesday night that snapped their 11 game winning streak.

Flin Flon still got a point so they are unbeaten in regulation in their last 12 games.

Joey Lies is having a great road trip picking up 4 goals in the first two games including his second career hattrick against the Nipawin Hawks on Tuesday. Lies got banged up in the second period against the Wings on Wednesday and his status for tonight is unknown.

The Bombers will get local product Wyatt Stinton back in uniform tonight after serving his two game suspension from a fight against the Bruins last Saturday at the Whitney Forum.

Flin Flon sits in first place with a record of 29-9-1-1, which is 5 points up on both the Battleford Stars and Weyburn Red Wings, while Estevan will try to snap a 3 game losing streak and are currently 6th overall at 21-16-2-1, just two points up on the 7th place Kindersley Klippers.

Two of those Bruin losses came at the hands of the Bombers last weekend, with Flin Flon winning a tight one  2 to 1  on Friday, and then they shut the Bruins out 5 to 0 on Saturday.

Flin Flon did an outstanding job on shutting down the Bruins high powered offense in particular  their top two offensive threats in Rylan Williams and Ewen Rennie who have combined for 114 points so far this season.

Rennie sits first in overall league scoring with Williams in third spot, so the Bombers will have to find a way to shut down these two lethal scorers if they want to pick up the win tonight.

Flin Flon leads the season series 2-1 with both of their wins coming at the Whitney Forum last weekend while the Bruins doubled up on the Bombers 4 to 2 in Estvan back on October the 18th.

Puck drop at Affinity Place is 7pm.

Also a big congratulations is in order for Bomber Head Coach and GM  Mike Reagan who has surpassed 1000 games behind the Flin Flon Bomber bench.

Mike took over behind the bench in the 2007 season and has been a main stay ever since, leading his team to multiple league finals and was just a single goal away from winning it all back in 2022.

He is a former SJHL Coach Of The Year and CJHL Coach Of The Year and only the legendary Dwight McMillan of the Weyburn Red Wings has coached more games in the history of the SJHL.

Congratulations Mike on a huge milestone and good luck to you and the Bombers tonight.

Flin Flon Minor Hockey Has Teamed Up With The Pas Huskies Female Players

Flin Flon Minor Hockey and The Pas Huskie players have teamed up to form a U13 Female huskies who have so far taken home 2 banners and 3 gold medals.

The three leadership roles are held by FFMHA players Emilia McKinnon, Rylee Sproxton and Kendal LeClair.

They are joined on the team by other local players Charlotte Nabe, Brynn Taylor, Alexa Vancoughett, and Annabel McKinnon. Good luck for the rest of this season.

Wings Snap Bombers Winning Streak

The Flin Flon Bombers had their 11 game winning streak snapped in Weyburn last night after dropping a 3 to 2 decision in OT.

It was a former Bomber in Rylan Pearce who did them in with a three point game including the overtime winner, which is his first as a Wing after coming over from the Regina Pats of the WHL.

The Bombers Joey Lies continues to have the best season of his career, opened up the scoring with his 22nd of the year on the powerplay. Reid Arberry also having a break out year scored the other goal, his 19th short handed.

Weyburn got their other  goals from Luke Dekay and Lucas Schmid.

It was a great goaltending dual between the Bombers Charlie Tritt who stopped 32 of 35 and Joey Rocha was solid for the Wings stopping 28 out of 30.

Even though the Bombers had their winning streak snapped last night they still picked up a point and are unbeaten in regulation in their last 12 games. Flin Flon  still sit first overall at 29-9-1-1. That is 5 points up on the second place Battleford Stars and Weyburn Red Wings who picked up their 26th win last night.

Flin Flon hasn't lost in regulation since December the 12th,when they dropped a game in the Battlefords.

The Bombers will enjoy a day off today with the road trip resuming in Estevan tomorrow and wrapping up in Melville on Saturday.

Hat Trick By Lies Leads The Bombers To Another Win

Joey Lies scored his second career hat-trick as the Flin Flon Bombers went into the Cage in Nipawin last night and knocked off the Hawks 7 to 4.

It was a wild first period with the Hawks scoring a couple of quick goals courtesy of Braeden Jockims and Ashton Tait before the game was even 7 minutes old.

That would wake the Bombers up,  as they would storm back with four goals including a pair from Lies, Hudson Brehaut and Reid Arberry added his 18th.

Nipawin got two more goals from Eric Hoiness and Finley Radloff, to make the score 4-4 after one.

The Bombers were able to shut the Hawks down the rest of the way and scored the next three, with a pair of goals coming from Colin Miller who now has 19 goals on the season.

Joey Lies converted the hatty late in the third period to give him a team leading 21 goals on the season, which is a career high.

The Bomber powerplay was cooking and was a perfect 3 for 3. Nipawin ended up going 0 for 3 and that was one of the biggest differences in the game.

Charlie Tritt got the start for Flin Flon  and he gave up 4 goals on 32 shots, while the Bombers were able to get to the Hawks standout netminder Gage Roberts 7 times on 32 shots.

It was a great start to the road trip as the Bombers have now reeled off 11 straight wins and improve to a league best 29-9-0-1 and now lead the second place Battleford Stars by 4 points,  who had their ten game win streak snapped last night by Melfort.

Flin Flon will look to carry the momentum into Weyburn tonight in a rematch of this past Spring's SJHL Semi Final where the Wings eliminated the Bombers in 6 games. Weyburn always plays the Bombers tough, so tonight will be a big challenge.

Puck drop at the Whitecap Resources Centre is 7pm.

U-13 Kinsmen Bombers Return Home With Consolation Medal

The U13 Kinsmen Bombers had a good weekend in  Prince Albert  posting a 3-1 record and were the  Consolation  winners.

They would begin the weekend with a 11-8 loss  to the Cudworth Stars but followed  that up with a 6-3 win over the Saskatoon Grizzlies. This would put the Bombers in a 5 way tie but would finish just outside the championship bracket on goal differential.

Their first playoff game would see them play the Regina Shamrocks and the Bombers came away victorious with a 7-4 win,  setting up a rematch with Cudworth for the Consolation Final.

It was a back and forth game, Luke Kowbel would score late to tie the game 6-6 sending it to a 3 on 3 sudden death overtime. Each team would trade chances and with less the 3 minutes remaining Brody Cooper would score the game winner.

Overall the weekend was a huge success for the Bombers,  with contributions from the entire lineup. The Bombers will next head to Thompson in February for a final tune up before they host the U13B provincials in March.

Werner Shuts Out The Bruins As The Bombers Continue To Roll On Home Ice

The Flin Flon Bombers were in fine form once again this weekend as they hosted the Estevan Bruins in a pair of games at the Whitney Forum.

Despite how far away these two teams are from each other,  this has turned out to be one of the best rivalries in the league especially after meeting in the post season two times in the last five years.

Who could ever forget their epic 7 game series in the SJHL Finals back in 2022.

There was a lot of excitement with the Bruins rolling into town as these are two of the most exciting teams in the league with a lot of fire power.

Goals were tough to come by on Friday though,  as Flin Flon squeaked out a 2 to 1 victory.

Estevan opened up the scoring when Rylan  Williams was given credit for his 19th of the season. Williams re-directed a puck past Bomber netminder Charlie Tritt late in the first and it was later determined that the puck was kicked in.

The goal still  stood and Estevan took a 1 to 0 lead into the second.

Reid Arberry continues his fine play and scored his 17th to tie the game early in the second as he re-directed a Joey Lies pass from the corner.

That got the Bombers going and they would get the eventual game winner when new comer Connor Miller would pounce on a loose puck in the Bruin crease to get his 17th on the powerplay.

Charlie Tritt did the rest and made 27 saves to pick up his second win in a Bomber uniform. It was a very exciting day for Charlie as the SJHL announced that he has committed Lake Superior State University of NCAA Division I for the 2026-27 season.

Tritt, 20, has split this season between the Humboldt Broncos and the Bombers, the latter of whom acquired him at the trade deadline.

The Estevan netminder Dylan Adams was spectacular and ended up stopping 37 out of 39 Bomber shots and almost stole this game at the Forum on Friday.

The two teams would regroup and prepare for Saturday in the rematch.

Ryan Ulmer the rookie out of Regina,  would open the scoring for the Bombers early in the first period when he took a nice pass from Keaton Lesperance behind the net to pot his 7th of the season.

This would stand up as the game winner as Flin Flon would strike four more times en route to a 5 to 0 win on Saturday night. The other Flin Flon goals came from Natan Meunier(2), Jack Martin (11), Xavier Fauchon (7) and Hudson Brehaut(6).

Fin Werner got the start between the pipes for the Bombers on Saturday and he was perfect stopping all 24 shots in his direction for his second shutout of the year. Werner improves to 9-1 on the season with a sparkling GAA of 1.90.

Dylan Adams started once again for the Bruins and he surrendered 5 goals on 37 shots without  a lot of help from the players in front of him and got yanked after the 5th goal. Brady Carr came in and stopped all 4 shots he faced.

The Bombers did an outstanding job shutting down the high octave Estevan offense both nights and only gave up the one goal in both games.

After the weekend sweep of Estevan, Flin Flon improves to a league best 28-9-0-1 and an unbelievable 18-0 at the Whitney Forum this season.

The Bruins fall to 21-15-2-1 and are currently in 6th spot overall, one point behind the Yorkton Terriers.

This will be a very challenging week for the Bombers as they will embark on a 4 game in 5 night road trip which is never easy.  They will face four  tough teams including a key division matchup in Nipawin tomorrow night.

On Wednesday the Bombers find themselves in Weyburn, Friday it is a rematch with the Bruins in Estevan, and the trip will wrap up in Melville on Saturday.

All four opponents are fighting for playoff positioning and will be looking forward to knocking off the top dogs in the SJHL. The next home game in Flin Flon will be the weekend of February the 6th and 7th as they host Weyburn.

This is a break out year for Arberry who finds himself in the top 20 in league scoring and amongst the league leaders in goals.

Reid is third in  team scoring for the Bombers and was part of Team SJHL who struck Gold at the Viking Cup in Camrose Alberta over the Christmas break.

Arberry had a fabulous tournament and was able to pick up 6 points in 4 games played including an Over Time Winner in their final regulation game.

After a slow start in the first quarter, the Kings rolled over Norway House in the final winning 91 to 37. Creighton finished third beating Nelson  House.

The Hapnt Queens also had a good weekend beating Sam Cooke and Creighton in the round robin. That put the Queens in the final against Swan River and the Queens rallied with the winning bucket with just over a minute remaining to win  in exciting fashion 37 to 35.

Creighton finished third beating Frontier out of Cranberry 58 to 37.

Next up for the Senior Hapnot Queens will be the Caleb Janzen Memorial Tournament in Creighton January the 30th and 31st. The Senior Hapnot Kings will be in Swan River for a tournament this weekend.

Munn Cup Results

The 56th annual Munn Cup Minor Hockey Tournament  wrapped up yesterday in Thompson.

Flin Flon had two teams take part including the Northland Ford Bombers and Peds Threads Bombers.

The Northland Ford Bombers went 0-3 in the round robin losing to the Pas, Norway House and Thompson. Things ended well with the Northland Ford Bombers beating Norway House 8 to 7 to win the Mintenko Cup.

The Peds Threads Bombers went 1-2 in the round robin beating the Pas and they lost to Thompson and Swan River.

Peds Threads then lost a heart  breaker to the Pas 6 to 5 in the shootout in the Lamontagne Cup.

Swan River ended up beating Thompson in the A  final and are the Munn Cup Champions.

Flin Flon Bombers Stay Red Hot At Home

The Flin Flon Bombers continue to find ways to win hockey games, especially at the Whitney Forum.

The Bombers suited up for just the one game last  week  on Saturday night and managed to double up on  the very hot Yorkton Terriers 6 to 3.

Yorkton had won 13 of their last 17 games including a hard fought 7 to 5 win in Nipawin the night before.

This was the first meeting between these two teams since the beginning of November and both teams have made significant moves to their rosters since then.

Flin Flon came out and played a decent first period despite not playing a game in 7 days and hit the score sheet first.

Leo Seitz fed a beautiful pass from the corner right in front of the Yorkton  net perfectly for Ryder Mucha who one timed his 13th of the season and got the fans at the Whitney Forum whipped up into a frenzy early.

This would be a highlight reel goal in any building in the country.

That was a powerplay goal and put Flin Flon up 1 to 0 after one.

The Terriers Gabriel Courchesne tied things up early in the second with a powerplay goal of his own for his 18th of the season.

Wyatt Stinton would score another highlight reel goal when he took advantage of a nice pass from new comer Colin Miller on a two on one. Courchesne came back with his second of the night just 9 seconds later and once again tied the game at two.

Maverick Deslisle answered on the powerplay when he made a couple nifty moves in front of the Yorkton net to bury his 14th of the year and made it 3 to 2 for Flin Flon going into the third.

Flin Flon carried the momentum into the third period and out shot the Terriers 12 to 6 and scored three more goals courtesy of Daniel Morozov (5), Reid Arberry (16) and Leo Seitz (9).

Morozov got the game winner early in the third when he converted a Joey Lies pass from back of the Yorkton net.

The Terriers made things interesting when new comer Tyler Palin got them within one goal after Morozov scored.

Flin Flon took over at that point and didn’t allow Yorkton any real good scoring opportunities the rest of the way.

Charlie Tritt got his first start between the pipes for the Bombers, who was one of the players that came over from the Humboldt Broncos in that blockbuster trade just prior to January the 10th.

Tritt  stopped 21 out of 24 shots and was  good  when he had to be including a nice break away save on the Terriers Vinay Junek early in the game. If Junek scores there, who knows maybe it is a different game.

Callum Creig started for Yorkton and he suffered the loss giving up 6 goals on 30 shots,  and I thought he played very well and couldn’t be faulted for any of the goals the Bombers scored.

There were no shortage of powerplays for either team which made things interesting,  as these were the two best powerplay units in the league  going head to head. Flin Flon finished up 2 for 7 while Yorkton was 1 for 6.

Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan commented about the number of penalties that were called in the game. “ I thought there wasn’t a lot of flow in the game because of all the penalties and I couldn’t get some guys out on the ice very often. We kind of shot ourselves in the foot when we had the five minute powerplay,  and then we  took a couple of penalties. I just thought there wasn’t a lot of flow and that is a strength for us when we can run one through four lines , and we are still trying to figure out with some of the new guys  where everyone is going to go. It was a big win for us finding a way to win in the third period.”

Flin Flon remains perfect at the Whitney Forum and are  a league best 16-0 at home this year and remain the only undefeated team at home.

The Bombers sit at 26-9-0-1, good for 53 points which has them first overall, four points up on the second place Battleford Stars. The Stars do have a game in hand.

Flin Flon will now prepare for the Estevan Bruins who make their way to Flin Flon for their only regular season visit this weekend, Friday and Saturday night January the 23rd and 24th.

The Bruins are much improved from last year and should give the Bombers a good test. Estevan is in 6th spot overall at 20-13-2-1 and beat the Bombers 4 to 2 in their only matchup back on October the 18th.

It is always a good matchup and the two teams have played each other in a lot of big games the last few years including their epic 7 game series in the SJHL final back in 2022.

There were some great matches, showing the strength of Team North, and the excellent programs run in both Flin Flon/Creighton and La Ronge. Results From The U-9 HockeyTournament In The Pas

The Pas hosted their 3oth annual  U-9 A&W , Funky Threads Minor Hockey Tournament this past weekend.

Three teams from Flin Flon made their way to The Pas for the festivities.

The Flin Flon Firemen went 1-2 in the round robin and won the 11 versus 12 game by beating the Norway House Northstars 9 to 4.

The Flin Flon Ford Lightning went 1-1-1 in round robin and beat the Pas Huskies White 10 to 8 in the 9 versus 10 game.

Flin Flon McKeens went 2-1 in the round robin and lost the 5 versus 6 game, 2 to 0 against the Thompson Banana Split Grinders.

It was an all Swan River final with the Bolts getting the best of the Colts.

Good luck to both the Flin Flon U-11 teams who will be in Thompson next weekend for the Munn Cup and we will post the schedule later in the week.

Bomber Powerplay To Much For The Wolves

You can make it seven straight wins for the Flin Flon Bombers as their powerplay was clicking in Laronge on Friday as the Maroon and White doubled up on the Wolves 6 to 3.

Fresh off a 10 to 3 drubbing of Laronge earlier in the week, Flin Flon continues to dominate their UPL rivals.

The Bomber powerplay is the best in the entire league at 25 % and Flin Flon went 3 for 7 with the extra attacker and that was the biggest difference in the game.

Flin Flon scored two late goals in the opening period with Joey Lies collecting his team  leading 18th of the year on the PP. Rhett Ewen would score just 17 seconds later and it looked like the Bombers were on their way, with a 2 to 0 lead after one.

Give the Wolves credit, they came out to play and scored three goals in just over a 7 minute span to stun the Bombers early in the second.

Jacob Morrison, Owen Turner and William Knox all found the back of the net to get the home town crowd behind them at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre.

Flin Flon shook that off and got back on track with Ryder Mucha and Ryan Ulmer both scoring late in the frame to put the Bombers back out in front 4 to 3 after two.

Ulmer’s 6th of the year stood up as the game winner as Flin Flon was able to hold Laronge to just 3 shots in the third period and got a couple of insurance goals from new comer Colin Miller and Wyatt Stinton.

Miller came over to the Bombers along with goalie Charlie Tritt and defenseman Ryder Knutson from the Humboldt Broncos in a block buster trade on Thursday.

The Bombers are sending draft picks, pdf’s and future considerations in exchange for these three veteran players that they are hoping will get them over the top and help them pick up their first league Championship since 1993.

All three Broncos welcomed the trade and seem to have been well received by their new Bomber team mates.

Final shots in the game were 38  to 16 in favour of Flin Flon in the 6 to 3 win, with the three powerplay goals the difference.

Fin Werner was back between the pipes for the Bombers and he only had to make 13 saves for his 8th win of the season. Charlie Tritt is expected to make his first start for Flin Flon on Saturday VS Yorkton.

Riley Zezel suffered the loss, giving up 6 goals on 38 shots but I thought he played well.

Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan gave us his thoughts on the new comers Colin Miller and Ryder  Knutson on their Bomber debuts. “ I thought those two guys were awesome. Miller created a lot and had a lot of opportunities. I am familiar with Miller, so I wasn’t surprised. We have been watching a lot of video on Ryder and he is even better than we thought and he is going to fit in perfect with this group. He talks a lot and as he plays more, he is going to be a real important part of this team. I am very happy with the early results of this trade.”

Flin Flon improves to a league best 25-9-0-1 and have 51 points which is 5 more than the streaking Battleford North Stars,  who are 8-2 in their last ten and have leap frogged the Weyburn Red Wings for second overall.

The Bombers will now get a 7 day break before they host the Yorkton Terriers at the Whitney Forum on Saturday night.

This will be the fourth meeting of the season between these two teams with the Bombers taking two of the first three. They haven’t seen each other since November the 4th.

Puck drop is 7:30 at the Whitney Forum.

Bombers Make Big Statement Prior To Deadline

The January 10th CJHL Trade  Deadline isn't Quite here yet, but a number of teams across the country are making deals ahead of Saturday.

The Flin Flon Bombers made a major splash with the biggest move  so far completing a multi player deal with the Humboldt Broncos.

The Flin Flon Bombers have acquired goaltender Charlie Tritt (20, Vancouver, BC), defenseman Ryder Knutson (21, Swift Current, SK), and forward Connor Miller (19, Lipton, SK), along with Humboldt’s 2010-born third- and fifth-round selections in the 2026 SJHL Draft.

The Broncos will receive  significant future assets, including Flin Flon’s 2010-born first-round selection and 2011-born second-round selection in the 2026 SJHL Draft. Humboldt also acquires two player development fees, future considerations, and two players to be named by October 1, 2026.

No question after yesterday's blockbuster deal,   the Bombers are all in trying to bring home that elusive League Championship which has eluded  them since 1993.

Tritt will give the Bombers a bonified number one goalie with the best save % in the league at .940. He also has three shutouts in 20 games. Miller will add some scoring as he is better than a point per game with 29 points in 27 games.

Knutson who was the Bronco Captain ,  will add stability to the blue line with lots of SJHL experience and has been able to produce 16 points in 24 games so far this season.

We will get our first look at the new Bombers tonight as they make their way to Laronge to face the Ice Wolves at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre.

You can catch all the action on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com beginning with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10 and drop of the puck at 7:30.

The Bombers have won 6 in a row and are fresh off a 10 to 3 win over Laronge at the Whitney Forum on Wednesday night.

Bombers Shoot The Lights Out Against Laronge

It was a very special night at the Whitney Forum last night  as the Flin Flon Bombers honored the  Flin Flon, Creighton, Denare Beach, and Cranberry Portage Fire Departments. They also recognized EMS, the RCMP, Manitoba and Saskatchewan Conservation for everything they did to protect our communities last summer.

Flin Flon wore special jerseys for the game and were known as the Flin Flon Water Bombers for last night's special game against the Laronge Ice Wolves.

Flin Flon  did not disappoint and they came out and put on one heck of a show putting up 68 shots enroute to a 10 to 3 victory.

Reid Arberry and Ryder Mucha led the way with a pair of goals each with Rhett Ewen(8), Jack Martin (10), Landon Alexander (10), Hudson Brehaut (5), Joey Lies (17) and Xavier Fauchon (6) all finding the back of the net as well.

Evan Cook, Justin Berezniuk and Dayton Tailfeathers replied for Laronge.

Finn Werner got the start for the Bombers and he turned aside 21 out of 24 shots for his 7th win of the season. Graham Brown was far more busy in the Laronge net  stopping 57 out of 67 shots and played very well despite being hung out to dry many times.

Flin Flon continues to roll along and have won 6 in a row and have given themselves a bit more breathing room for first overall and now lead Weyburn by 5 points for first place.

The Wings do have two games in hand.

Laronge will fall to 6-20-3-1 and have dropped all 5 meetings to the Bombers this season.

These two teams will meet once again Friday night at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre in Laronge.

You can catch the broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10 and drop of the puck at 7:30pm.

Special Night At The Whitney Forum

The Flin Flon Bombers will be putting their 5 game winning streak on the line as they host the Laronge Ice Wolves at the Whitney Forum tonight at 7:30.

Tonight will be a very special night as the Bombers will be  celebrating the Flin Flon, Creighton, Denare Beach, and Cranberry Portage Fire Departments. Along with EMS, the RCMP, Manitoba and Saskatchewan Conservation for everything they did to protect our communities last summer during the Wild Fires. The Bombers will be  honouring the brave men and women who fought for our safety and to protect our homes during unprecedented times.

A special ceremony will take place before puck drop.

The Bombers are flying high as they enter tonight's action with the best record in the league at 23-9-0-1, good for 47 points.

That is 3 points up on Weyburn and 6 up on Nipawin who are second and third overall respectfully.

Laronge has struggled this season and sit 12th overall at 6-19-3-1 and have just traded their Captain Zane Norman to the Melville Millionaires prior to the Jan 10th trade deadline.

The Mills moved 2007 born defender Carter Turchuk and 6 ft 3 forward Carter Wingert who is currently playing for the U18AAA Prince Albert Mintos in exchange for Normand as well as a PDF.

Flin Flon has beaten the Wolves in all 4 meetings this season and have dominated them in recent memory winning 25 of the last 30 matchups head to head.

Anything can happen on a given night in the SJHL, and the Wolves will have a chance to play spoiler tonight and we will see if their latest trade sparks them.

No radio broadcast tonight but we will be on Flow Sports.

We will broadcast the rematch from Laronge on Friday night beginning with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10 and drop of the puck at 7:30 for Creighton Furniture.

Fin Werner Selected As Rookie Of The Week

The Flin Flon Bombers are flying high and sit first overall in the SJHL standings and are now  ranked number 13 in the country.

Fresh off back to back wins over the Melfort Mustangs, the Flin Flon Bombers are getting contributions from everybody.

One of those players is rookie goaltender Fin Werner from St Albert Alberta.

Werner has been outstanding since being reassigned from the WHL back in October.

Fin has been selected as the SaskMilk Rookie Of The Week for his shutout performance against the Melfort Mustangs on Saturday night. He stopped all 36 shots that came his way for his first career SJHL shutout.

On the season, Werner is 6-1 with a GAA of 1.86 and a Save % of .928.

Flin Flon Minor Hockey hosted their first tournament of the new year, the Jason Morran Memorial U-11 tourney which wrapped up yesterday.

Congratulations to the Thompson AA King Miners who won the Gold Medal in convincing fashion knocking off the Peds Theads Bombers 11 to 0.

Bodie Wood led the way for Thompson with 4 goals in the Gold Medal game.

Ped's Threads finished the tournament at 2-2.

In the A Event it was the Thompson A King Miners beating the Pas Huskies Team 2, by a score of 6 to 2.

The Northland Ford Bombers finished fourth losing 7 to 4 to Norway House in the Bronze Medal game.

Eli McKinnon, Oliver Mitchell, Pearson Crone and Matrix Ratt scored goals for Flin Flon.

A big thanks to all the players, coach's,officials, parents and volunteers in contributing to a successful tournament.

The Flin Flon Bombers Kick Off 2026 With A Bullet

The Flin Flon Bombers kicked off 2026 just like they wrapped up 2025, with a couple of impressive victories over their division rivals the Melfort Mustangs.

After a 12 day break,  the Bombers began the new year on Friday welcoming  Melfort to the Whitney Forum.

Local product, Ryder Mucha who missed a chunk of games heading into the Christmas break due to a sickness,  was in fine form and spotted his team a couple of first period goals.

Mucha was able to beat Mustang  netminder Madden Mulawka  five hole when he got his stick caught on the side of the net. Mucha would then collect a powerplay goal just a few minutes later when he grabbed his own rebound, to give him 9 goals on the season.

With a 2 to 0 lead entering the second period, the Bombers hit their stride and scored three more goals courtesy of Maverick Deslilse, a short handed goal from Rhett Ewen and Jared Miskiw scored his first ever SJHL goal.

Flin Flon cruised to the 5 to 1 victory.

Logan Peskett scored the lone goal for Melfort on the powerplay who were outshot 32 to 26.

Devin Peck got the start in goal  and was very good when he needed to be making 25 saves for his 13th win of the season. That is second best in the league for wins for a goalie, only the Nipawin Hawks Gage Roberts has more wins with 15.

Madden Mulawka suffered the loss giving up 5 goals on 32 shots. Specialty teams were huge with the Bombers going 1 for 3 on the powerplay and they also killed 4 of 5  Melfort powerplays, including a 5 minute major to Wyatt Stinton late in the game.

Saturday the venue would switch to the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort.

Both goaltenders were marvelous and put on a goaltending clinic as only one goal was scored in the entire game.

Just past the midway point of the second period, the Bombers Pierce Yakimchuk received a beautiful saucer pass from Maverick Deslilse and went in and beat Mustang goalie Kason Kobelka with a nice wrist shot over his left shoulder. This was Yakimchuk’s fourth goal of the season and stood up as the game winner as both goalies did the rest.

Flin Flon’s Finn Werner was dialled in and he ended up stopping all 36 shots fired in his direction for his 6th win of the season. Kason Kobelka was just as good in the Melfort net and surrendered just the one goal on 35 shots.

Both teams failed to get any production on the powerplay and combined were 0 for 10 with the extra attacker.

This was a very gutsy and  impressive win for the  Bombers who pulled off the win on the road with 9 regulars out of their lineup. Flin Flon was missing Joey Lies, Reid Arberry and Sam Ward who suited up for the SJHL at the Viking Cup.

The Bombers were also missing Rhett Ewen, Nathan Lalumiere, Nash Holmes, Keith Marsden and Ryder Mucha who were out with injuries. Wyatt Stinton was suspended for the game for a kneeing penalty the night before.

Head Coach and GM, Mike Reagan was quick to compliment his team after the win on Saturday night. “ Unbelievable effort , just really gutsy and I am real proud of our guys who found a way. I think wins like this really bring a team together and build character. This is how you have to win in the playoffs and you have to find ways. With 9 regulars out of the lineup you are essentially missing your whole team, but we found a way to get it done.”

With the two wins over the Mustangs on the weekend, the Bombers solidify their hold on first place overall at 23-9-0-1, which is 3 points up on second place Weyburn and 6 points up on the third place Nipawin Hawks.

Flin Flon returns to the ice this week with a pair of games against another divisional foe in the Laronge Ice Wolves. Laronge comes to Flin Flon on Wednesday with the Bombers returning the favour and heading to Laronge on Friday.

Congratulations to the Bombers Joey Lies, Reid Arberry and Sam Ward on being part of team SJHL who won the Gold Medal on the weekend at the Viking Cup in Camrose.

The SJHL won the Gold Medal in exciting fashion with a 5 to 4 OT win on Saturday night over the  Sait Trojans  in the final. The Yorkton Terriers Tylan Henrickson tied the game with just 14 seconds left in regulation and former Flin Flon Bomber Ethan Andrews scored the OT winner.

I also wanted to send condolences to the family of Evan Hammond who tragically passed  away a few days ago. Evan was the voice of the Port Alberni Bulldogs of the BCHL for the last several years and made a big impact for the team he was covering as well as the entire league.

Evan grew up in Flin Flon and started his broadcasting career while he was still in high school at CFAR. He would get the opportunity to go do play by play for the OCN Blizzard of the MJHL and was with them for four of their league championships and was an integral part of their club and history. In the early 2000’s he would make his way to BC to broadcast Bulldog games and forever cemented his legacy.

He was a larger than life character, who loved his family, his community and hockey. He was always smiling and made others  smile as well.

RIP Hammer. You will be greatly missed.

Flin Flon Bombers Ready To Kick Off 2026

After a 12 day break the Flin Flon Bombers return to the ice tonight to kick off 2026.

The Bombers begin the new year first overall at 21-9-0-1, one point up on the Weyburn Red Wings with 43 points.

Flin Flon will kick off the new year with a home and home against  the Melfort Mustangs tonight at the Whitney Form with the rematch in Melfort tomorrow night at the Northern Lights Palace.

The defending league champion Mustangs are struggling and if the playoffs were to start today, Melfort would be on the outside looking in at 11-14-1-2. They trail the 8th place Humboldt Broncos by 7 points for the final playoff spot. Melfort does have a game in hand.

Saying that, I would never count out a Trevor Blevins team and there is still a good chunk of the season remaining, and a win in Flin Flon tonight could really give them a big spark. It is very hard to imagine a Melfort team not in the post season,  and I personally think the back to back champs will be better in the second half.

The Bombers have beaten the Mustangs in all 4 head to head matchups  this season,  out scoring them 17 to 6 including a 5 to 2 win in Melfort in their last meeting November the 22nd. Joey Lies had a hattrick that night.

Lies along with Reid Arberry and Sam Ward will not be in uniform for the Bombers  tonight as they are at the Viking Cup in Camrose Alberta. The Mustangs will be without the services of their top scorer Zayden Sadlemyer and Bo Eisner who are also in Camrose.

Puck drop at the Whitney Forum is 7:30 tonight and there will be no radio broadcast, but we are on FLO Sports. We will have tomorrow night's broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com  from Melfort beginning with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10 and drop of the puck at 7:30 for Creighton Furniture.

Happy New Year everybody.
