Flin Flon Bombers Close Out 2025 In Convincing Fashion

The Flin Flon Bombers closed out 2025 with a couple of convincing wins over the Laronge Ice Wolves on the weekend.

The Bombers made their way to the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre for just the second time in franchise history on Friday night to kick off the home and home.

Landon Alexander scored just eight minutes into the opening period and the Bombers never looked back in a 6 to 1 win.

Xavier Fachon had a strong game scoring twice on the powerplay to give him 5 on the season. The other Flin Flon goals came from Hudson Breahaut (4), Leo Seitz (8) and Ryan Ulmer (4).

Former Bomber, Connor Hoemsen scored the lone goal for  Laronge when he scored on an odd man rush with the only shot that beat Finn Werner early in the third period.

Both goalies played great with Finn Werner picking up his fifth win of the season for Flin Flon  making 27 saves on 28 shots. Werner continues to have solid numbers with a GAA of 2.17 and a save % of .910.

Ice Wolf starting netminder Graham Brown played very well and did everything he could to keep his team in the game with 50 saves on 56 shots.

Specialty teams were huge with the Wolves not able to muster anything on the powerplay going 0 for 7 which included two 5 on 3's. The Bombers went 3 for 9.

The two teams would wrap up 2025 with the rematch at the Whitney Forum on Saturday.

The Bomber's powerplay was on fire once again going 4 for 8 and Flin Flon found the back of the net 8 times for an 8 to 3 victory.

It took just over a minute for Maverick Deslisle to score his 11th of the year and the Teddy Bears came flying out on the ice for The Northland Ford Teddy Bear Toss.

Once the Teddy Bears got cleaned up, Flin Flon went back to work with Wyatt Stinton scoring his 6th of the year on the powerplay.

Give Laronge credit,  they did battle back to tie the game at two on goals from Oliver Christianson and their Captain Zane Normand. The Bombers did score a couple more times to close out the period with Deslisle scoring his second of the night and Jacob Bauman adding his second of the season late in the opening period.

The Bombers kept coming and added four more goals in the second courtesy of Wyatt Stinton who picked up his second of the night and 7th of the season.  Reid Arberry scored his 13th and Jack Martin his 9th.

The biggest celebration of the night came when second year defenseman Natan Meunier scored his first ever SJHL goal when he grabbed a puck off the boards and fired a wrist shot from the point that found the back of the net.

Meunier got swarmed by his team mates and it was his 19th birthday to boot, for a game I'm sure he won't forget.

Laronge got the only goal in the third period when recently acquired Nikita Kulikov buried a rebound early in the period.

Devin Peck got the call between the pipes and picked up his 12th win of the season with 22 saves on 25 shots. Riley Zezel got the start from Laronge who was under fire all night,  but played well and ended up with 54 saves on 62 shots.

With the two wins,  the Bombers are back in first place overall  with 43 points through 31 games and are a very impressive 13-0 at the Whitney Forum.

Laronge will slip to 6-19-2-1 and remain in the basement.

The SJHL is now on it's Christmas break and the Bombers will be back on the ice starting on January the 2nd as they host the Melfort Mustangs. Our first radio broadcast of the new year will be in Melfort January the 3rd.

I want to take this time to wish all Flin Flon Bomber fans, parents, sponsors, board members and the players and coach's a Very Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing everyone back at the rinks in 2026.

Bombers Tangle With The Wolves

Just two more games remaining for the Flin Flon Bombers before we flip the calender to 2026.

Flin Flon will close out 2025 with a home and home with the Laronge Ice Wolves who they have not seen since opening weekend.

These are two teams going in opposite directions as the Bombers are 19-9-0-1, second overall with 39 points while Laronge is 6-17-2-1 and are in the basement with 15 points.

This may look like a mismatch on paper,  but we all know that anyone can beat anyone on a given night in the SJHL, and the Wolves will be pumped and hungry to knock off their Northern rivals.

Flin Flon did win the two meetings to start the season by scores of 9 to 4 and 5 to 1back in September and both teams have made changes since then especially Laronge.

The Wolves didn't have their Captain Zane Normand in the lineup and hadn't acquired one of their better snipers in Evan Cook who didn't arrive til October. Both these players should make a difference in the head to head games with the Bombers this weekend.

Flin Flon continues to be led offensively by two veteran 20 year old's in  Joey Lies and Reid Arberry. They have combined for 57 points and both are in double figures for goals. Lies leads the way with 16 and Arberry has 12.

Specialty teams could be a factor this weekend as the Bombers have the league's fourth best powerplay at 22.8 %, while the Wolves are last at just 8 %. The Bomber Penalty Kill is 6th at 82.8 % with the Wolves 12th at 70.4 %.

Numbers do tell the story,  but I expect the Wolves to be motivated and if they could pull off the upset tonight and this weekend, it could end up turning their season around.

Coach Kaminski will have his team ready to go and a good crowd is expected tonight at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre with puck drop at 7:30pm. No radio broadcast tonight as this game will be broadcast on Sasktel TV Province wide.

We will have the rematch from the Whitney Forum tomorrow  on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com ,  beginning with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10 and drop of the puck for Creighton Furniture at 7:30.

Don't forget to bring your Teddy Bears and stuffed animals to the rink for the annual Northland Ford Teddy Bear Toss tomorrow night. When the Bombers score the first goal,  you throw the Teddy Bears on the ice and they get collected and donated to the Friendship Centre for their annual  Christmas Gift Program.

Former Bomber Joins The RCMP

Congratulations to former Flin Flon Bomber Defenseman  Cole Tanchuk on being hired by the RCMP after completing training at the Depot Division.

Cole's first post will be serving communities in Northern Saskatchewan.

Tanchuk credits his four years with the Bombers as spring boarding his new career in policing. “Reags really prepared me for depot,” Tanchuk said. “You don’t really notice it when you’re there, but when you get out in the real world, you really realize that Rags prepares you for the real world. With policing, it’s a very disciplined job, and the way he holds everyone accountable goes hand in hand with what I experienced at depot.”

Tanchuk spent all four years of his junior career in Flin Flon, suiting up for 203 regular season games and picking up 63 points in the process including 9 goals and 54 assists.

He also added 15 points in 53 career playoff games and helped the Bombers reach the league final in three straight seasons which included a trip to the National Final in Estevan in 2022.

Originally from Shellbrook, Saskatchewan, Tanchuk will begin his RCMP service in his hometown, before transitioning to Sandy Bay later this year—bringing him back to a familiar part of the province and close to the community that supported him throughout his junior hockey career.

JV Queens Shine In Cranberry

The high school basketball season kicked off this past weekend and a number of Hapnot teams were in action.

It was a very impressive weekend for the JV Queens who were in Cranberry for the Frontier Classic.

The Queens crushed the competition beating MBCI out of The Pas 76 to 15, Cross Lake 67 to 8 and the host Raiders 57 to 8, going a perfect 3-0 in the round robin.

The JV Queens advanced directly to the final  and they once again dominated MBCI winning 61 to 14 to finish first.

Congratulations to Head Coach Craig McIntosh and the rest of the Queens on their start to the season.

The Senior Hapnot  Queens were in Carberry for the Carberry Classic.

The Queens went 1-1 in the round robin losing to Souris 73 to 35 before beating Major Pratt out of Russell 71 to 16. That put the Queens in the playoff round and they lost to William Morton 50 to 44 and finish fourth.

The Senior Hapnot Kings were in the Pas this past weekend for the Bill McDonald Memorial.

The Kings went 0-2 in the round robin losing to MBCI 72 to 49 and RD Parker out of Thompson 77 to 55.

They would wrap up the tournament on a high with a 71 to 55 win over Porcupine Plain in the third place game.

The JV teams are now off til the new year while the Senior Kings and Queens wll both be in action this Tuesday for the Red and Green Classic in Creighton.

Bombers Pick Up Gutsy Win In The Battlefords

Down 6 regulars in their lineup the Flin Flon Bombers made their way to the Battlefords to take on the Stars in a pair of games this past weekend at Access Communications Centre.

Battleford was one of the hottest teams in the league and were 8-2 in their last ten games.

Flin Flon was missing the services of Ryder Mucha, Keaton Lesperance and Hudson Brehaut who didn’t make the trip due to sickness. Nathan Lalumiere and Nash Holmes were both out with injuries and Wyatt Stinton was at the World JR A Challenge in Quebec.

The Bombers sucked it up even with a small bench and dropped Friday’s game 4 to 2 in a game that could of went either way.

After a scoreless opening period the Stars jumped out 2 to 0 in the second on goals from Gavin Granger and Finlay Klippenstein. The goal from Klippenstein really hurt,  as he scored with only 26 seconds left in the period to give the Stars all the momentum.

The intermission did the Bombers good and Braydon Bruce did manage to score his first ever SJHL goal early in the third,  when he released a nice snapshot from the high slot over a maze of players in front of the Battleford net.

This would get Flin Flon on the board at 2 to 1.

Finlay Klippenstein had the hot hand and he would score two more goals to complete the hat-trick including his 15th of the season into the empty net as the Stars picked up the win.

Flin Flon’s Daniel Morozov did score a nice goal off the faceoff late in the game but that is as close as the Bombers would come.

The Stars netminder Kaiden Serpa was solid and only gave up two goals on 39 shots including 15 saves alone in the third period. Serpa was also good early,  as the Bombers did come out and dominate the first period but couldn’t convert.

Devin Peck suffered the loss and gave up 3 goals on 34 shots with the other goal scored into the empty net.

Despite the loss on Friday,  the Bombers felt they were the better team and  if they could of got their  specialty teams going they  would of had a better fate. Flin Flon went 0 for 6 on the PP while the Stars were 2 for 4 and this was one of the big differences in the game.

The Bombers vowed to be better on Saturday and they were as they came out and dominated the rematch.

Flin Flon got the only two goals of the opening period courtesy of Jacob Bayman and Sam Ward. Bauman got rewarded by getting to the net and converted a beautiful pass from Joey Lies as he scored low glove side on Serpa for his first ever SJHL goal.

Sam Ward scored on the powerplay when he flipped a puck on the Stars net that fooled Kaiden Serpa and the visitors found themselves in  front 2 to 0 after one period.

The teams would trade goals in the second period including an early one from the Stars just 42 seconds in from Drew Williamson. Carter Geisen also scored a nice goal short handed when he knocked down a Bomber pass and went down the ice alone to beat the Bomber netminder Finn Werner.

The Bombers got second period goals from Maverick Deslisle and Leo Seitz and the Bombers were up 4 to 2 after two.

Flin Flon were not going to be denied this night as they scored  another timely goal early in the third,  when Jack Martin took advantage of a Stars turn over in their own zone.

Battleford would fight back to make it a two goal game  once again,  when Finlay Klippenstein would score his fourth of the weekend on a partial break away when he beat Werner with a nice shot up high under the bar.

The Bombers would eventually seal it with an empty netter from Pierce Yakimchuk with less than two minutes remaining for the 6 to 3 win.

Finn Werner started and he was fantastic with a lot of key saves including many late in the game with the Battleford net empty,  and the extra attacker on the ice. Werner wound up with 29 saves on 32 shots and is now 4 -1 on the season.

Kaiden Serpa got his second straight start for the Battleford’s  and he took the loss giving up 5 goals on 36 shots. Specialty teams were way better for the Bombers this night as they went 1 for 3 on the powerplay and killed all 6 North Stars opportunities.

Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan summed up the victory on Saturday. “ I give the guys a lot of credit tonight it was real gutsy. We have a lot of sick guys and we made it mandatory for them to take some Advil last night. Guys were feeling a little better tonight and it showed,  and we were short even another guy tonight and we only had ten forwards and the guys worked extremely hard. We just had our legs under us a little better tonight. There are times you are really frustrated with your team and then there are times you absolutely love them, not just because you won but because of the effort  and how hard we competed because of the circumstances.”

After the weekend the Bombers see their record improve to 19-9-0-1, good for 39 points and are second overall, just 3 points behind the first place Weyburn Red Wings. Both teams have played 29 games.

Battleford will slip to 15-8-2-2 and are 6th overall and are only two points behind the third place Nipawin Hawks.

Flin Flon only has two more game remaining  before Christmas and will close out 2025 with a home and home with the Laronge Ice Wolves. This will be their first meeting since the opening weekend of the season.

Friday’s game will be played at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre in Laronge with the rematch at the Whitney Forum on Saturday.

Saturday’s game will also be the Northland Ford Teddy Bear Toss where fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to donate towards the Salvation Army and Friendship Centre’s Christmas Toy Drives.

Ekko was named to the volleyball graduating all-star team and will be attending the game this weekend in Winnipeg.

Unfortunately, she will be unable to play due to a sprained ankle sustained at the end of her round robin games during the volleyball provincials this past weekend.

Despite this setback, Ekko  played a crucial role in helping her team advance out of pool play, finishing second in their pool, and then a fourth place at Provincials.

Bombers Respond On Saturday

First place overall was on the line this past weekend as the Flin Flon Bombers hooked up with their long time division rivals the  Nipawin Hawks in a home and home.

Flin Flon led the Hawks by two points as they ventured down the highway to the Centennial Arena on Friday night.

The Bombers were 17-7-0-1 while the Hawks entered the weekend 16-6-1.

Things started well for the Maroon and White on Friday as Daniel Morozov picked up his third on the year on the powerplay. Morozov took advantage of a nice pass from Sam Ward to beat Gage Roberts on a nice snapshot low blocker side.

Flin Flon carried a 1 to 0 lead into the second period and it took Nipawin all of 23 seconds to tie the game when home town  Captain Finley Radloff was left alone in front of the Bomber net.

This sparked the Hawks and they would score two more quick goals courtesy of Raydr Wallington and Eric Hoiness to jump out in front 3 to 1.

Leo Seitz did score a late goal for Flin Flon in the second period, and he made it a one goal game going into the third period.

The Bombers came out and dominated the Hawks in the final frame out shooting them 18 to 3 in the third period,  but could not beat Gage Roberts who put on a goaltending display for the ages.

Nipawin got a couple of insurance goals from Hudson Gainer and Clayton Nesbitt to make the final 5 to 2. Roberts was the difference as Flin Flon out shot Nipawin 47 to 23 in the game which included  a lot of really good scoring opportunities.

Finn Werner suffered his first loss of the year surrendering 4 goals on 22 shots, with one goal scored into the empty net.

This was just the Bombers second loss in their last 12 games.

Saturday was a new day and the Bombers returned to the friendly confines of the Whitney Forum where they were 11-0 this season.

It was the Hawks who struck first this time when veteran forward Mason Karakochuk grabbed his own rebound to beat Devin Peck who got caught deep in his net.

Nipawin took a 1 to 0 lead into the second, but the Bombers responded with a couple of goals from Landon Alexander. Alexander’s first goal was all about speed and determination,  as he took the puck from Center and raced in over the Hawk blueline and got in alone on Colten Scott.

Alexander stormed the front of the net and the Hawks re-directed the puck into their own net. Flin Flon took off and Alexander scored again when he put his team ahead just three minutes later when he broke down the right side and fired a shot just underneath the cross bar.

This put the Whitney Forum into a frenzy and the Bombers once again got the home town crowd behind them.

Nipawin did answer when Karakochuk scored his second of the night when he  intercepted a puck in the Bombers zone,  and fired a massive slap shot past Peck, off the post and in.

Flin Flon retook the lead just 8 seconds later as the Bombers won the faceoff at center ice and rookie Keaton Lesperance jumped on a loose puck in front of the Nipawin net.

This stood up as the game winner as the Bombers took a 3 to 2 lead into the third period. They would get a couple of insurance goals from Ryan Ulmer and Reid Arberry who potted his 12th of the year into the empty net to make the final 5 to 2.

Devin Peck was back between the Bomber pipes and he was rock solid stopping  30 of 32 shots for his 11th win of the season. Colten Scott started for Nipawin and he gave up 4 goals on 41 shots with one goal scored into the empty net.

Specialty teams were big on Saturday with Flin Flon killing off all 6 Nipawin Hawk powerplays including a 5 on 3. The Bombers went 0 for 2.

A great bounce back for  the Bombers who  take over sole possession of first place overall improving to 18-8-0-1,  good for 37 points. The Hawks drop to 17-7-1. Flin Flon is also a perfect 12-0 at the Whitney Forum and are the only undefeated team in the league at home this season.

Every win is huge as the parity in the league this season is unreal with just 7 points separating the first place Bombers and 8th place Melville Millionaires.

Another good test for Flin Flon this weekend as they hit the road, heading to Battleford to take on one of the big surprises this year the Battleford North Stars.

The Stars are no slouches despite a lot of changes from last year and are a solid 14-7-2-2, good for 6th place. This will be the first meetings of the season this weekend with games Friday and Saturday at Access Communications Centre. Both games will start at 7:30pm.

Both games will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.

UPL Showdown This Weekend

After finishing November with an incredible 10-1 record the Flin Flon Bombers look forward to hitting the ice in December.

It will be a tough test to begin the month with a UPL Division matchup against the Nipawin Hawks in a home starting tonight at the Cage.

Not only will this weekend decide first place in the division, but first place overall. Entering play tonight the Bombers are 17-7-0-1 good for 35 points, while the Hawks are 16-6-1, and are just two points behind.

The Hawks are also red hot and are on a 5 game winning streak and are 8-2 in their last 10 games. Since the Hawks acquired Brendan Olson from the Melville Millionaires they have been able to get it into high gear.

These are also the two stingiest teams in the league when it comes to goals against  with Nipawin leading the league with 65 goals against in 23 games with the Bombers  right behind with 68 in 25 games.

The Hawks also have the best penalty kill in the league at 86%, with Flin Flon 7th overall at 81.6 %. The Bombers are ranked number 4 on the powerplay at 23.7 %, followed by Nipawin 6th overall at 19%.

This will be the fourth meeting of the year between these two long time rivals with the Bombers taking two of the first three meetings. Flin Flon beat the Hawks in their home opener 4 to 1 back on September the 26th, before Nipawin responded with a 3 to 1 win at home on October the 14th.

Flin Flon also took the game at the Whitney Forum 5 to 1 in their most recent meeting on November the 1st.

Puck drop tonight at the Cage is 7pm which means we hit the air at 6:40 pm with the Great North GM Coach's Show followed by play by play for Creighton Furniture  on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.

The rematch will go tomorrow night at the Whitney Forum at 7:30 and you will also be able to listen to tomorrow night's game on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.

The high school basketball season has started in Saskatchewan and the Creighton Kodiak Girls played their first tournament of the season.

The Kodiak's were in Saskatoon for the Bowlt Tournament and played very well coming in second. They beat the host team Tommy Douglas Tigers and then defeated the Marion Graham Falcons 41 to 30.

That put them in the final against Bedford Road and the Kodiaks lost a close one and ended up finishing second.

Congratulations to Keely Nivon on being chosen the player of the game, Emma Gardiner Long,  the Energy Player Of The Game, and Marlee Lounsbury was a Tournament All Star.

Ward Shining On Bomber Blue Line

The Flin Flon Bombers are once again one of the elite junior  hockey teams in the country and sit first overall in the SJHL standings at 17-7-0-1.

The Bombers are on a roll after finishing the month of November at 10-1.

They are getting contributions from everyone including 20 year old defenseman Sam Ward who arrived from the WHL in early October and has just been selected the Super U Defenseman Of The Month.

Ward was on fire in November collecting 12 points in 11 games including 6 goals. So far this season,  Ward is 9th in scoring among SJHL Defensemen with 15 points in 15 games and has played a lot less games than the players ahead of him.

The accolades continue to pour in with Ward also being selected the Super U Defenseman Of The Week. Ward picked up 5 points in the two wins over Kindersley on the weekend including 3 goals and 2 assists.

Congratulations are also in order for Bomber Forward Maverick Deslisle who was named the Borgault Forward Of The Week. Deslisle also had a good series  against the Klippers picking up 6 points in the two games  on the weekend.

So far this year Deslisle has 23 points in 23 games including 9 goals.

Queens Finish Fourth At Provincials

It was a strong showing by the Senior Hapnot Queens Volleyball team who represented the North at Provincials this past weekend in Somerset.

The Queens went 2-2 in their pool with wins over Carberry and Immanuel Christian and losses to Prairie Mountain and Gabrielle Roy.

Hapnot moved on to the Quarter Finals and beat Goose Lake 25 -19 and 25-19 to advance to the semi's and take on one of the top programs in the entire province in  Warren.

Warren was able to prevail 26 to 24 and 25 to 11.

Hapnot would then play Rosenort for third and this turned out to be a very exciting game. Rosenort squeaked out a 22-25,25-23 and 15 to 12 win in the tie breaker.

All in all a very good season for the Queens who will see a lot of their top players graduate after this season. Among the highlights a sixth straight Zone title and ending the season fourth in the province.

Congratulations to the coaches Ray Shirran and Sara Braun as well as all the players on a season to remember.
