Senior Kodiak Girls In Carrot River

The Creighton Kodiak Senior Girls were in Carrot River for a volleyball tournament this past weekend.

The Kodiaks played very well beating Meath Park 2-0 and splitting with St Brieux, Nipawin and Carrot River.

They finished second in their pool and crossed over to play Wakaw and ended up dropping both sets in the semi's and finished fourth overall.

The Kodiaks will now head to Shellbrook this weekend for Conferences and if they can finish in the top two they would advance to Regionals and a chance to compete for a Provincial Championship.

Bombers Come Up A Little Short In Humboldt

It was the best game I witnessed so far this season  as the Flin Flon Bombers made their way to the Elgar Petersen Arena in Humboldt on Saturday.

Flin Flon was flying high after putting up 11 goals in Yorkton the night before and snapping their 6 game losing streak.

The Bombers actually came out a little flat and couldn't muster much in the first period. You have to give the Broncos credit as well,  as they smothered the Bombers and didn't give them a lot of room.

After Connor  Miller put the Broncos up early in the game, Flin Flon got a break when Reid Arberry put a harmless shot on net that caught Bronco netminder Charlie Tritt off guard.

This was just the Bombers third shot of the game, but it seemed to give them some confidence and they played much better in the second and third as the game started to open up.

The teams traded goals in the second with Owen Chapman scoring short handed for the Broncos before Joey Lies answered for Flin Flon on the powerplay.

This was Lies 8th of the year and third goal of the weekend,  as the four year Bomber veteran  is enjoying his best year ever offensively .

Special teams continued to be a big part of the story in the third period with the two teams trading powerplay goals.

Rylan Hue put Humboldt up for the third time in the game 3 to 2 before Maverick  Deslilse would tie the contest with his 5th of the season. Deslilse had a great weekend as he had four assists on Friday.

With the game tied at three, it looked like the Bombers might  pull this one out as they were awarded a powerplay at the end of regulation.

So Flin Flon started the extra time with a 4 on 3,  but could not solve the Broncos Charlie Tritt who made some amazing saves including a highlight reel one on Ryder Mucha just as the powerplay expired.

The Bombers kept coming,  but couldn't get the difference maker and were by far the better team in OT, out shooting Humboldt 8 to 2.

So it remained 3 -3 after OT and a shootout was needed. Both goalies continued to play well and the Bronco's Jacob Strizzi was the only player to find the back of the net, firing a nice snap-shot past the Bombers Devin Peck low stickside.

Humboldt would pull it out 4 to 3 in the shoot-out  but the Bombers played a heck of a game and battled hard all night,  and really went after it after a shaky first period.

Devin Peck who picked up his first ever SJHL shut-out the night before in Yorkton was dialled in making 33 saves on 36 shots and gave the Bombers a really good chance to win this  game with some highlight reel saves of his own.

He and Tritt went head to head all night in the best goaltending performance I have seen this season. Tritt stopped 38 of 41.

All in all,  a good weekend for Flin Flon who take 3 out of 4 points on the weekend, snapping their 6 game losing streak and now sit at 7-6-0-1 and are 6th overall, one point behind Nipawin and Estevan.

The Broncos have the best record in the league at 11-4 and are an amazing 9-1 on home ice.

After playing 8 straight on the road the Bombers look forward to returning to the Whitney Forum this weekend and will host the Nipawin Hawks this Saturday night.

Puck drop is at 7:30 and you can listen to all the action on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.

Hudson Brehaut Is Northland Ford Player Of The Week

It has been a tough go in October for the Flin Flon Bombers who have dropped 6 games in a row on the road.

There have been some bright spots including the play of Whitewood Saskatchewan's Hudson Brehaut. He got called up for last year's playoff run and impressed the coach's and was able to earn a full time  spot on this year's team.

Brehaut played well and works hard every single game and was able to collect a pair of assists in the 4 games played on the road, and has been awarded the Northland Ford Player Of The Week.

Brehaut has 4 assists in 10 games this season as the Bombers try to snap that 6 game losing streak this weekend. Flin Flon will travel to Yorkton and Humboldt on Friday and Saturday , and you can listen to both games on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.

Bombers Drop All 4 On The Road

It was one of the toughest road trips for the Flin Flon Bombers in recent memory, as they  dropped another game on the road against the Estevan Bruins on Saturday.

Flin Flon played well but had a tough time finding the back of the net and dropped a 4 to 2 decision to the Bruins.

After a scoreless  first period the teams traded a pair of goals in the second. Maverick Deslisle and new comer Sam Ward scored for Flin Flon. The Bombers picked up Ward from the Victoria Grizzlies of the BCHL who dressed for his second game for the Bombers.

Estevan got their goals from Oliver Kramp and Ewen Rennie.

Things looked promising with the game tied at two heading into the third but Ewen Rennie found the back of the net two more times for Estevan and now  leads the entire league in scoring with 21 points in 12 games.

Flin Flon out shot the Bruins 36 to 24 but once again the offense struggled.

Matthew Bradley took the loss with 20 saves on 24 shots and is 1-2 on the year while Nathan Kam made 34 saves on 36 shots and picked up his second straight win.

The Bombers won't have a lot of time to stew about their recent losing streak as they head back out on the road to Yorkton and Humboldt this weekend for games Friday and Saturday.

Friday the Bombers are at the Westland Arena to face the Terriers for the second time this season after dropping a 5 to 2 decision last Wednesday. Puck drop is 8pm Manitoba time. Saturday they are in Humboldt to face the Broncos who beat them in their previous meeting 5 to 3 on Wednesday October the 7th.

Both games will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.

The Senior Hapnot Queens travelled down to Morris for a volleyball tournament on the weekend.

The Queens went 4-4 in the round robin and placed fourth in their pool.

Both the Senior Hapnot Queens and Kings will head off to Brandon the beginning of November for the Big Dig, one of the biggest volleyball tournaments in the province.

Zones will take place November the 14th and 15th.

Kodiaks End Season On High Note

The Creighton Kodiaks 6 Man Football Team played their best game of the season and wrapped up their year with a solid 53 to 38 win over Wakaw yesterday afternoon.

Creighton was 0-5 heading into yesterday's game but took advantage of the great weather and big crowd in picking up the win.

This was the Kodiaks first ever win over this power house team so it was a really sweet victory.

Deakon Anaka had an incredible afternoon leading the Kodiaks with four touchdowns including one run that was over 60 yards. PK Pelletier also had a good day with two touchdowns.

Matthew Lavis hauled in a the other touchdown and Oliver Atkinson kicked two converts.

Head Coach Ryan Karakochuk summed up yesterday's win. " I told the boys when they came out to enjoy this. The last 4 years they have been working their buts off and playing for a game like this. For our Seniors it was a perfect way to end the season. One of our goals this year was to beat Wakaw and we had never beat them before. To put that on our resume even though it was a tough season, is something we can put our hat on."

Creighton will finish the season 1-5 and won't qualify for the playoffs for the first time in their history, but look forward to getting back at it next season.

The Kodiaks would like to thank the parents, families and all the community members for your endless support and appreciate the best fans out there, and look forward to seeing you at the year end banquet.

Norman will be looking for their first win of the season after dropping a pair of games to the Eastman Selects to open the season last weekend.

Road Woes Continue

Another rough outing for the Flin Flon Bombers last night as they dropped their fourth in a row, 5 to 2 to the Yorkton Terriers.

Specialty teams were the big story last night with the Terriers going 4 for 5 with the extra attacker.

William Leonard scored a pair with singles coming from Thomas Ries and Mattias Shoffner as Yorkton built up a 4 -0 lead after two.

The Bombers did respond in the third period with a couple powerplay goals of their own from Maverick Deslisle and Joey Lies. This was Lies fifth goal of the season which matches his entire goal total from a year ago.

Yorkton did score the games only 5 on 5 goal with just over 5 minutes remaining to squash any chances of a Bomber comeback to make the final 5 to 2.

Flin Flon heavily out shot the Terriers 49 to 33 but could only beat Yorkton netminder Alexandro Montoya twice while rookie Matthew Bradley  got the start for the Bombers and he surrendered 5 goals on 33 shots.

The Bombers record will drop to 6 -4 and it doesn't get any easier as the long road trip will continue in Weyburn tomorrow against a Red Wing team that is 8-2 on the season.

The Wings can fly and have scored the most amount of goals in the league with 44 in 10 games. This will be Flin Flon's first visit to the Whitecap Resources Centre since being eliminated in last year's SJHL Semi- Final.

Game time is 8pm Manitoba time.

Bombers Drop 3 To 1 Decision In Nipawin

It wasn't the way the Flin Flon Bombers wanted to start their road trip last night as they went into Nipawin and dropped a 3 to 1 decision to the number 5 team in the country.

It was the Bombers third straight loss after starting the season 6-0.

The Hawk Captain Finley Radloff opened the scoring with his second of the season midway through the first period.

Carter Anderson and Jack Janzen added goals in the second period as the Hawks took control at  3 to 0. Reid Arberry did reply for the Bombers on the powerplay with his third of the year late in the second.

That is the only puck the Bombers  could slip past Hawk goalie Gage Roberts who was sharp in stopping 28 out of 29. Devin Peck started for Flin Flon and he gave up 3 goals on 30 shots.

Flin Flon has now been out scored 13 to 6 in their last three and have only scored 5 goals 5 on 5 in those games.

The Bombers will try to get back in the win column as the road trip continues at the Westland Arena in Yorkton tonight.

Yorkton has been a little slow out of the gate at 3-4-0-1 but did beat the Humboldt Broncos back to back last weekend. The season series was 2-2 between the two clubs last year.

The Bombers have played Yorkton well winning 15 of the last 20 meetings head to head but are really struggling to score.

Saying that,  the Bombers still have a good record at 6-3 and a road win tonight would be huge. Puck drop in Yorkton is 8pm Manitoba time tonight.

U-13 Kinsmen Bombers Play Host To The Pas And Thompson

The U-13 Kinsmen Bombers played host to some exhibition hockey this weekend against the Pas and Thompson.

The Bombers played the first game against Thompson and jumped out to a quick 4 to 0 lead before Thompson rallied to tie the game. Flin Flon would score late and picked up the 5 to 4 victory.

Logan Boucher had the hot hand scoring the hat-trick including the game winner.

The Pas Huskies battled Thompson in the second game and that ended in a 5 - 5 tie with back and forth action all game.

The third game saw the Bombers get into double digits and they beat the Pas 10 to 2. Aiyden Kemp and Quinn Trubiak both led the way with hat-tricks.

The Bombers will now prepare for their first tournament of the season coming up in November in Humboldt.

Kings And Queens Results From Doug Oberlin Volleyball Tournament

Both the Senior Hapnot Queens and Kings Varsity Volleyball teams were in Swan River for the Doug Oberlin Varsity Volleyball  tournament on the weekend.

The Queens were impressive going 3-0 in the round robin against Swan River, The Pas and Cross Lake.

Their success carried into the playoff round with the Queens beating Swan River in the Semis. That would put them in the final against MBCI out of The Pas with The Pas winning the tournament in straight sets.

The Kings went 4-6 in the round robin beating Minegoziibe, splitting with Swan River and Cross Lake and losing to RD Parker out of Thompson and Cranberry.

Hapnot then dropped a heart breaker to Swan River in the playoff round in three sets and were eliminated. RD Parker beat Cranberry in the final in three sets.

The Queens dropped their first game to the Garden Valley Zodiaks by a score of 4 to 1 which knocked them down to the B-side.

Hapnot responded with a hard fought 2 to 1 win over the Dauphin Clippers which put them in the Consolation Final against Niverville.

The Queens trailed 1 -0 at the half but turned things around and ended up winning the Consolation Final 2 to 1.

Bombers Come Up Empty On The Road

After 6 straight wins,  the Flin Flon Bombers tasted defeat for the first time this season with a pair of losses in Humboldt and Melville on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Things started well at the Elgar Peterson Arena on Tuesday with Flin Flon scoring two quick goals in the first 7 minutes with Maverick Deslisle and Joey Lies both  finding the back of the net.

The Bombers couldn't sustaine the momentum,  and the Broncos stormed back and took over the scoring , finding the back of the net 5 times for the 5 to 3 win.

Rhett Ewen scored his fourth of the year late in the game to give the Bombers some life, but the Broncos sealed it with an empty netter.

Devin Peck suffered his first loss by giving up 5 goals on 25 shots.

On Wednesday, the Bombers made their way to the CN Community Centre in Melville for the first time to hook up with the Mills.

This time the Bombers spotted the opposition the two first goals with Wesley Golden and Riley Craigen sparking the offense.

Flin Flon did answer when local product Ryder Mucha took advantage of a beautiful Joey Lies pass from the back of the net to get the Bombers on the board.

The Bombers played a great second period holding Melville to just one shot and also got rewarded with the only goal of the period. Reid Arberry re-directed a Emerson Clark shot for his second of the season.

With the game tied at two entering the third period, Melville took advantage of a couple of Bomber mistakes and quickly restored the two goal lead at 4 to 2 . Preston Baerwald and Rylan Oatman scored the goals.

Flin Flon tried to mount the late comeback when Joey Lies took advantage of a 5 on 3 and shot a laser beam over the left shoulder of Mills goalie Noah Sinagowitz. This was Lies fourth goal of the year and he is off to an impressive start considering he only had 5 goals all of last year.

With the goalie pulled, the Bombers tried to tie the game but Melville would find the empty net and pulled out the 5 to 3 win.

Devin Peck suffered his second straight loss and ended the night with 20 saves on 24 shots.

After six straight wins Flin Flon will see their record slip to 6-2 while Melville improves to 3-3-1-1.

The Bombers will get the long weekend off before embarking on a very tough 4 game in 5 night road trip starting in Nipawin on Tuesday. They then head to Yorkton on Wednesday, Weyburn on Friday and ending in Estevan on Saturday.

Our next broadcasts on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com will be on October the 24th from Yorkton and the 25th from Humboldt.

Creighton Kodiaks Finally Play At Home

Hard to believe, but the Creighton Kodiaks 6 Man Football Team finally played a home game yesterday. After being on the road for four straight weeks, the Kodiaks got their first chance to enjoy their new field.

The weather couldn't have been any better , as it was a beautiful sunny day and a tremendous crowd of over 300 plus came out to cheer on the  home team.

The Kodiaks jumped out to the quick 6-0 lead but ran out of gas dropping a 42 to 28 decision against Shellbrook who physically wore Creighton down throughout the afternoon.

It was another good afternoon for PK Pelletier who hauled in two touchdown passes of 20 and 10 yards. Deakon Anaka also scampered in for a one yard run and Brayden Church broke a few tackles for a 50 yard run to the delight of the home town crowd.

Creighton drops to 0-5 on the season and Head Coach Ryan Karakochuk  says they are going to give it their all in trying to win their last game of the season. " Absolutely, it didn't go our way yesterday , I thought we were in it for a while. One of our goals was to beat Wakaw this year, as they are the top team, so why not go out with a bang. Our Seniors will be excited to play this game. I hope we put on another good show and the weather cooperates as both our teams are fun to watch,  and I think the ball will be in the air quite a bit  that game."

The final game is set to go on Thursday October the 16th with kickoff at 4pm, Manitoba time.

The Kodiaks want to thank Northland Ford for coming out with their We Scare Hunger Campaign, as well as the Creighton Cheerleading Team for firing everyone up and all the spectators who came out to cheer them on.

Bombers Hold Off Gutsy Warman Team

It might of looked like a mismatch on paper, but nothing could be further from the truth as the Flin Flon Bombers took on the Warman Wolverines in a pair of games this past weekend.

Warman made their way up North to the Whitney Forum for the first time in franchise history ,  sporting just  one win on the season.

The Wolverines played hard and got great goaltending both games.

Flin Flon took Friday's game 4 to 2 with local product Wyatt Stinton leading the way with a goal and an assist. Other Bomber goals were scored by Joey Lies and Jack Martin who  picked up his first ever SJHL goal.

Warman got goals from former Humboldt Bronco Karson Kerbes and Kane Kennedy.

Taye Timmerman started the game in goal for Warman making his return to Northern Manitoba where he led the MJHL'S Blizzard to a league championship just a few months ago.

Timmerman was assigned to Warman from the WHL'S Saskatoon Blades to stay sharp for his next opportunity in the Western League. The Blizzard traded his rights to Warman last week.

Timmerman didn't disappoint making 36 saves on 40 shots, with some nice highlight reel ones. Not to be out done was the Bombers Matthew Bradley,  who picked up his first SJHL win with 42 saves on 44 shots and looked rock solid.

It was another tight game on Saturday and once again  Warman came out to play and gave the Bombers all they could handle.

In a see saw affair  the Bombers pulled out the 4 to 3 shoot out victory, with Reid Arberry scoring the shootout winner beating Griffin Wright low blocker side.

It looked like Warman might steal this one with a 3 to 2 lead with just over ten minutes remaining in the third period. Ryder Mucha had other ideas and was able to bury  his fourth of the season  on a nice pass from Wyatt Stinton to tie the game at three. This was the first time this season that Flin Flon had trailed in the third period.

The other goals came from Rhett Ewen and Maverick Deslisle who scored his first ever SJHL goal.

Warman got a pair from Kane Kennedy and a powerplay goal from Cam Sarna.

Both goalies were steller and were the story once again with Devin Peck back between the pipes for Flin Flon  as  he stopped 20 of 23 for his fifth win of the season.

The Wolverines went with Griffin Wright who stood tall with 38 saves on 41 shots. I wasn't surprised as Wright had a .944 save % coming into the game.

I was very impressed with Warman this weekend and commend them on their great work ethic and I believe are a better team than their record indicates. They now sit at 1-5-0-1.

After the weekend the Bombers remain the only team in the league without a regulation loss and are a perfect 6-0. Flin Flon will now  play their next 8 games on the road in a lot of tough buildings.

They get a stiff  test this week as they head to Humboldt Tuesday and Melville on Wednesday. Tuesday is an 8:30 MB start time and Wednesday is 8pm and both games will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.

Queens Perfect On The Weekend

The Hapnot Senior  Queens hosted a 4 team volleyball  tournament this past weekend and were in fine form going a perfect 6-0.

All the action took place on Saturday  afternoon at the Hapnot Gym.

The Queens beat Frontier out of Cranberry, OCN and Creighton to finish first.

Both Creighton and Cranberry went 3-3, while OCN was 0-6.

Kodiaks Lose A Heart Breaker

A great effort from the Creighton Kodiaks 6 man football team ,  who came up just a little short in Hague yesterday afternoon.

The Kodiaks ended up on the wrong end of a 56-50 score and actually had a 12 point lead at half time.

Brayden Church had his most impressive display at quarterback so far this year tossing 5 touchdown passes and scoring one himself with a one yard run plunge from the goal line.

Quinton Lycan hauled in three touchdowns, while Mathew Lavis scored two and PK Pelletier ran for one late in the first half.

The game was supposed to be played in Creighton, but Hague decided not to make the trip so the Kodiaks travelled down to Hague instead.

Creighton is now eliminated from playoff contention and drops to 0-4 on the season.

The good news is they are starting to get healthy and will finally get to play a home game next week. Creighton will host Shellbrook next Wednesday October the 8th with a 4pm kickoff time.

Don't forget that Northland Ford will be on site collecting non-perishable food items on behalf of the Lord's Bounty Food Bank. They will have a F-150 truck where you can drop off your donations.

Weekend Volleyball At Hapnot

The Senior Hapnot Queens will be holding a Varsity Volleyball Tournament this weekend.

All the games will take place on Saturday with all 4 teams from the North. Joining the host Queens will be Cranberry, Creighton and OCN.

The Queens will face Creighton in the first game at 11am with round robin through out the rest of the day.

The full schedule can be seen on the Hapnot Facebook page.

Wyatt Stinton Is The Victoria Inn Player Of The Month

Congratulations to local product Wyatt Stinton on being chosen the Victoria Inn Player Of The Month for September.

In 4 games,  Wyatt picked up 3 goals and 3 assists and also scored  a shootout goal in the win over the Melfort Mustangs on Saturday night.

Stinton is on pace to shatter his rookie totals from last year where he had 9 goals and 3 assists for 12 points in 39 games.

The Bombers are off to a 4-0 start and once again hit the ice this weekend where they will take on the Warman Wolverines, who make their first ever visit to the Whitney Forum on Friday and Saturday.

Flin Flon will then hit the road for a pair of games in Humboldt and Melville on Tuesday and Wednesday.

We will broadcast Saturday's home game and the two road games on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.

Change To Kodiaks Football Schedule

The Creighton Kodiaks 6 man football team announced on Social Media that they will not be hosting Hague tomorrow.

Unfortunately the Kodiaks were supposed to host Hague in week 1 , but the Creighton Field wasn't ready so they elected to travel to Hague instead.

They were hoping Hague would  switch games but Hague has informed the Kodiaks   that they have elected not to travel to Creighton tomorrow.

So once again Creighton will hit the road looking for their first win of the season with a 3pm Sask kickoff time tomorrow.

The Kodiaks will have to wait til October the 8th and 16th to play their first two home games.

Head Coach Ryan Karakochuk wants to apologize to the parents and fans but there isn't much they can do,  but are very motivated to travel to Hague tomorrow and try and  pick up their first win.
