It was a good start to the new SJHL season for the Flin Flon Bombers who knocked off the Laronge Ice Wolves in both games in the home and home this past weekend.
In front of a packed house at the Whitney Forum, the Bombers buried the Wolves 9 to 4 on Friday night.
New comer Ryan Ulmer score just 1:36 into the opening period and the Bombers went into cruize control.
Flin Flon got goals from 9 different scorers including Xavier Fachon, Landon Alexander, Ryder Mucha, Reid Arberry, Leo Seitz, Joey Lies, Wyatt Stinton and Benett Leibel.
Devin Peck started his first regular season game in the SJHL and collected the win for the Bombers making 21 saves on 25 shots. The Bombers managed to get 9 pucks past veteran Graham Brown on 52 shots.
Specialty teams were also a factor in the outcome with Flin Flon going 2 for 4 on the powerplay and Laronge ended up 0 for 5.
The next night the Bombers travelled to Laronge to play the first ever regular season game at the Wolves new home, the Jonas Roberts Memorial Centre.
This is a beautiful facility that should do the Wolves proud for many years to come.
Once again the Bombers started quickly with Ryder Mucha re-directing a shot past Riley Zezel who got the start on Saturday night.
Mucha got his stick down and re-directed a point shot from Natan Munier just over a minute into the game.
That was the only goal of the first period and after a bit of a sluggish start to the second, the Bombers found the net three more times in the middle frame.
Rhett Ewen playing his first game of the year batted a puck in the net when he was left alone out front. Initially the goal was waved off but after the officials gathered they over turned the decision.
Leo Seitz would then score his second of the season before Ryder Mucha picked up his second of the night and third of the year.
The teams traded goals in the third period with the Wolves Ryder McAslin converting a nice pass from the slot to beat Bomber netminder Devin Peck low glove side.
Flin Flon then took advantage of a 5 minute major when Xavier Fachon scored from the point in front of a screened Zezel to make the final 5 to 1.
Riley Zezel played very well in his SJHL debut and was the Wolves best player stopping 49 out of 54 shots. Devin Peck picked up his second SJHL win and also played well with 18 saves on 19 shots.
The Bombers went 1 for 5 with the extra attacker while the Wolves were 0 for 2.
Next up will be a challenging weekend for the Maroon and White as the Bombers will travel to Nipawin for the Hawks home opener this Friday night. The Hawks should be one of the deepest teams this year with 17 players back from last year's team.
Nipawin is 1-0 after beating the defending Champs, the Melfort Mustangs 4 to 3 this past Friday. Game time will be 8pm Manitoba time.
On Saturday Flin Flon will host Melfort with puck drop at 7:30.
Both games will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
