Flin Flon Minor Hockey hosted their first tournament of the season this past weekend and it was a big success at both the Whitney Forum and Sportex.

It was the 25th annual Mel Pearson Memorial Novice Hockey  Tournament paying tribute to one of the all time hockey greats from Flin Flon.

Action wrapped up on Sunday and it was the Swan Valley Colts beating The Thompson Dilly Bar Danglers 3 to 0 in the final to win  the Mel Pearson Cup.

Other scores included: The Snow Lake Spartans over McKeens Trucking 5 to 4 in the Cementation Event.

Swan Valley beat the Flin Flon Firemen 12 to 6 to claim the Jack Turner Event.

Northland Ford Lightning beat the Flin Flon Steelworkers 9 to 6 to win the Scott Davidson Event.

The Thompson Blizzard Beauties knocked off the Pas Huskies Black 11 to 4 in the Paddy Ginnell Event, and in the Shayne Pearson Event it was the Thompson Bar Busters over Norway House 10 to 4.

A big thanks to the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, parents, referees and all the coaches  and players from both Flin Flon and everyone from out of town who provided a great weekend of hockey.

The Flin Flon Bombers are flying high after two more convincing wins on the weekend.

The Kindersley Klippers made their way to the Whitney Forum for  the first time this season in a battle between two of the league’s power house teams.

The Bombers played 5 dominant periods over the weekend after a bit of a rough start on Friday.

Kindersley came out and quieted the crowd and led the Bombers 2 to 0 after the opening period on goals from Brock Evans and Pryce Thiessen. Flin Flon made some adjustments and came out and dominated the rest of the game and scored six straight goals for a 6 to 2 win.

Defenseman Sam Ward led the way with a pair of goals for his 5^th and 6^th of the season. His first goal midway through the second period was an absolute laser beam that beat Brett O’Halloran over his left shoulder and seemed to spark the club.

Wyatt Stinton (5), Maverick Deslisle(9), Ryder Mucha (7) and Jack Martin rounded out the scoring .

Finn Werner picked up his third straight win between the pipes and stopped 18 out of 20 and the reigning Sask Milk SJHL Rookie Of The Week winner,   has staggering numbers in those three  wins  including a GAA of 1.67 and Save % of .921.

Klipper netminder Brett O’Halloran kept his team in it and was their best player making 34 saves on 39 shots, with one of the Bomber goals scored into the empty net.

Head Coach and GM, Mike Reagan wanted to see a better start from his team on Saturday and he got that as the Bombers came flying out of the gate.

Landon Alexander intercepted a Kindersley pass and went in alone on O’Halloran and beat him low glove side along the post for his 6^th of the year short handed to open the scoring.

Alexander gets a lot of attention because of all the great hits he throws, but he is also a brilliant skater and is becoming one of the best players for the Bombers night after night.

Flin Flon carried the 1 to 0 lead into the second and got a couple more goals from Keaton Lesperance (2) and Sam Ward with his second in as many nights to give him seven on the season.

The Bombers looked like they were in control heading into the third period with a 3 to 0 lead but the Klippers would finally get one past Devin Peck who got the start Saturday.

Kindersley captain Will Christian was able to fight off a couple Bomber defenders and make his way to the net and shovelled a shot over Peck’s right shoulder to get his team back in the game.

Flin Flon responded shortly after on the powerplay when Joey Lies was left alone in front of the Kindersey net and potted his team leading 16^th of the season. It was also Lies 8^th powerplay goal which also leads the team.

That is all the offense Flin Flon would need as they picked up the 4 to 1 win and swept the weekend series. Devin Peck was successful in his return to the crease making 23 saves on 24 shots with some timely saves in the third.

Brett O’Halloran was brilliant yet again and faced a lot of rubber with 55 saves on 59 shots and the score should of been much worse. O’Halloran was under siege for most of the game and made some breath taking stops to keep his team in a game where they were severely over played.

November couldn’t of went much better for the Bombers who went 10-1 throughout the month and are all alone in first place at 17-7-0-1, good for 35 points.

Flin Flon has also been very dominant at home and are a perfect 11-0 at the Whitney Forum.

Kindersley will fall to 12-7-2-5 and are tied with Nipawin and Estevan for third overall.

Speaking of Nipawin, that is who the Bombers will face next in a home and home this weekend. Friday the Bombers travel to the Cage and will return the favour on Saturday at the Whitney Forum.

This should be a great challenge for the Maroon and White as the Hawks are also rolling and have won 4 in a row and are 7-2-1 in their last ten games.

Flin Flon leads the season series 2 to 1 and were impressive in their last game against the Hawks,  taking it to them 5 to 1 at the Whitney Forum back on November the 1^st.

Good luck to Bomber forward Wyatt Stinton and Trainer Jason Savill who will be part of Canada West for the World JR A Challenge in Trois – Rivieres starting December the 7^th.

A heavy weight showdown at the Whitney Forum this weekend as the Flin Flon Bombers will host the Kindersley Klippers in a battle for first place overall.

The Bombers have points in 10 of the last 11 games and are fresh off a weekend sweep of the back to back SJHL Champion Melfort Mustangs.

Flin Flon is 15-7-0-1 and a perfect 9-0 at home this season, while Kindersley is 12-5-2-5 and have played more overtime games in the league than anybody. They are also very good on the road at 6-2-0-4.

This will be the first meetings of the season between these two clubs with the Bombers taking all four meetings last year.

Kindersley is a team on the rise with new bench boss Kyle Scheider who knows the Bombers well after spending the last few years in Laronge as an Assistant Coach.

It is no stranger that these two teams are at the top of the standings as they are currently the top two offensive teams in goals for. Kindersley is first with 94 goals in 24 games, while the Bombers are right behind them with 92 in 23 games.

There is a big difference in goals given up with Flin Flon ranked third giving up 65, while the Klippers have given up 86 goals in 24 games.

Kindersley just made a deal with the Melfort Mustangs to bolster their forwards with the acquisition of Bryson Aikens who should add some scoring depth with 13 points in 20 games.

Avery Johnson is having another good season and is among the league leaders with 30 points in 24 games including 10 goals. Rylan Wieler and Brock Evans are also very dangerous with a combined 38 points.

The Bombers continue to score by committee and only have two players in the top 20 in league scoring. Local product Joey Lies who is having a monster season leads the way with 28 points in 22 games including 15 goals.

This is the most goals Lies has ever put up, he only had  a combined 15 goals in the last three seasons, so he has really stepped up in his 20 year old season.

It will be interesting to see who Head Coach and GM, Mike Reagan starts in goal tonight with Matthew Bradley winning his last three starts and 17 year old Finn Werner who is a perfect 2-0 and just picked up the SJHL Rookie Of The Week honor.

Or does Reagan go with 20 year Devin Peck, who is still the consensus number one. It will be interesting for sure.

Norman Minor Hockey is working with Hockey Manitoba and will be hosting a try-out for players interested in competing  in the Manitoba Winter Games in Thompson in March.

If you are interested in playing for Team Norman,  the tryouts  will be December the 22nd and 23rd at the Creighton Sportex .

This program is for Boys born in 2013 and Girls born in 2013-14. The tryout fee is $50.00 and e-transfers will be available.

They are also still looking for coach's to apply as well.

Flin Flon Minor Hockey has made a big announcement on an event coming to town in March of next year.

U-13 Division Coordinators Adam Ricard and Tanner Brough stopped by the CFAR studio on Monday to announce that FFMH will get to host U-13 B Provincials March the 13th to the 15th.

The U-13 Kinsmen Bombers will be the host team and will be joined by nine other teams from across the province who will be determined in the new year.

Teams will have to play off in Regional tournaments to qualify for the event.

The Flin Flon Judo Club sent 6 members to a provincial judo tournament in Watrous on Saturday, entering in 8 divisions. For many of these members, it was their first taste of competition on the provincial scene.

     Starting things off was Elizao Ramos-Tallivera picking up a Gold medal in U10 Boys Ne-Waza division. This was Elizao's first tournament.

     David Stilborn and Anibal Ramos-Tallivera both entered into the Sr. Men Ne-Waza divisions for their first taste of competition. David finished 4th in a stacked -81kg division, and Anibal finishing 7th in the heavyweight division.

     Wesley Chlan continued with his growth as a fighter, going undefeated, winning Gold in the Sr. Men's -81kg Ne-Waza division. He followed that up with a silver in the -81kg Tachi-Waza division.

     Acadia Northfield took a Bronze medal in the Sr. Women's +78kg Ne-Waza division, and was forced to withdraw due to injury in the Sr. Women's +78kg tachiwaza division due to injury. She placed 4th.

 Jacob Hiebert continued his dominance in the sport, winning Gold with a clean sweep of the U14 -46kg division. This was Jacob's first tournament stepping into the U14 bracket, and he showed his dominance over the years in U12 division was no fluke. He out muscled and out skilled all of his opponents in a matter seconds. He will be someone to watch this season, and in the upcoming Saskatchewan Winter Games in February.

  The club now gets back to work preparing for those Winter Games fight offs, which will be held in Flin Flon on Jan 10th, and the Sask Open in Regina on Jan. 24th.

Big news for second year home town product Wyatt Stinton of the Flin Flon Bombers ,  who has been selected to play for Canada West at the World JR A Challenge in Trois Rivieres Quebec December the 7th to the 13th.

Stinton was one of six players who will make the squad from the SJHL.

Wyatt is enjoying his second season suiting up for his home town team and has 4 goals and 13 assists in 17 games this year and has played a total of 64 games the past two seasons.

Stinton is a complete player that takes draws, plays special teams, a terrific skater and can play physical and will make a nice addition to this year's team.

Joining Stinton on the Canada West  roster from the SJHL includes Jaxon Herchak from the Kindersley Klippers who was on last years team, Thomas Ries from Yorkton, Tao Flory from Melfort,  Ryan Hue from Humboldt and goalie Taye Timmerman from Warman.

The Hapnot Senior Queens volleyball team who just picked up their 6th straight Zone Title are on their way to Provincials in Somerset.

The Queens will play two games on Thursday against Carberry at 12:05 and Prairie Mountain at 3:20.

On Friday they play Gabrielle Roy at 11:05 and Immanuel Christian at 1:15.

The top 4 teams from each pool will move on to the Quarter Finals.

A name synonymous in Flin Flon hockey circles will be remembered this weekend.

The 25th annual Mel Pearson Memorial Hockey Tournament will start this Friday with games at both the Whitney Forum and Sportex.

Flin Flon will have four teams competing including the Flin Flon Firemen, McKeens Trucking, Flin Flon Ford Lightning and the Flin Flon Steelworkers.

Other teams taking part include The Pas, Thompson, Swan Valley, Snow Lake and Norway House.

Games start Friday with the Flin Flon Firemen taking on the Pas Huskies Red at 1:30 at the Whitney Forum. Flin Flon Ford Lightning taking on the Pas Huskies White at 3pm at the Sportex. Flin Flon Steelworkers VS Pas Huskies Black at 3:45 at the Whitney and Flin Flon McKeens battling the Thompson Dilly Bar Danglers at 4:15 at the Sportex.

Playoffs begin Sunday morning with the A-Side Final, The Mel Pearson Cup at 1:30pm.

The Flin Flon Bombers have hit their stride and are getting contibutions from every player on the roster including their goaltending.

Congratulations to Bomber netminder Finn Werner who has been selected as the SJHL  Saskmilk Rookie Of The Week.

Werner, only 17 landed in Flin Flon just a few weeks ago after starting the season with the Everett Silvertips of the WHL.

Werner won his first two starts for the Bombers last week making 19 saves in a 3 to 1 win over Warman on Wednesday, before making 21 saves against the Melfort  Mustangs in a 5 to 2 win Saturday.

A great start to his SJHL career as Werner is 2-0 with a GAA of 1.50 and a save % of .930.

Flin Flon gets set for a big showdown this weekend with the Kindersley Klippers with first place on the line,  as these two teams will collide at the Whitney Forum for the first time this season Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm

Congratulations to the Northland Ford Lightning who beat McKeens Trucking in the final yesterday at the Jack Burden Tournament in Thompson.

The final score was 6 to 2. The Flin Flon Firemen were also there and they beat The Pas Huskies Red 11 to 8 for the Rigestone Cup in a game that took place between the 7th and 8th place teams.

The U-13 Kinsmen Bombers were in the Pas for the Wescana Inn Cup this past weekend and played very well.

After an opening loss to Thompson the Bombers rebounded with wins over Norway House, Cross Lake and the Pas.

That put Flin Flon in the final and they would get another crack at Thompson. Unfortunately the Bombers lost a heart breaker in the shoot out 4 to 3 and finished second.

Back to back wins for the Flin Flon Bombers Against the Melfort Mustangs this past weekend.

The two long time division rivals met in a home and home this weekend which began with a very intense and spirited affair at the Whitney Forum on Friday.

Leo Seitz led the way with his first ever SJHL hattrick as the Bombers picked up the convincing 8 to 3 win on Friday. Other Flin Flon goals came from Xavier Fachon, Pierce Yakimchuk, Daniel Morozov and a pair of goals from Jack Martin.

Melfort got their goals from Reis Nyland, Tristan Ziola and Zayden Sadlemyer.

Matthew Bradley got the start and picked up his third straight win stopping 13 out of 16 shots, and wasn’t very busy as the Bombers dominated the game from beginning to end. Flin Flon not only dominated the play but took it to Melfort physically a well with a number of big hits.

Madden Mulawka got the start in goal for Melfort and was pulled after giving up 3 goals on 17 shots. Kason Kobelka came in relief and surrendered 5 goals on 29 shots.

Things got interesting midway through the third period as a donnybrook broke out  with multiple player ejections and over 100 minutes in penalties handed out to both teams.

They finally got things sorted out after a lengthy break and the two teams settled down for the rest of the game.

It certainly made for an interesting story line the next night for the rematch in Melfort at the Northern Lights Palace.

Flin Flon did not have a good start and brought zero energy into the game on Saturday,  and were quite fortunate it was scoreless after one period.

It looked like it might be the Mustangs night as Tristan Ziola took advantage of a Bomber turn over just outside their zone,  and broke in alone to beat Bomber netminder Finn Werner with a nice back hand.

That seemed to wake the Bombers up and they started to play better and got rolling and eventually took over the game.

Local product Joey Lies went to work and he picked up his second hattrick of the season and now leads the team with 15 goals so far this year. This is a career high for Lies who only scored 15 goals in the last three seasons.

The Bombers got two insurance goals from Reid Arberry and an empty netter from Rhett Ewen as the Bombers skated to the 5 to 2 victory for their fourth straight win against Melfort this season.

The other Melfort goal came from Will Munro.

17 year old Finn Werner got his second start between the pipes for the Bombers   and was good when he needed to be, making a lot of timely saves to improve to 2-0 on the season. He moves exceptionally well and is very good at tracking pucks.

In two starts Werner is 2-0 with a SV % of .930 and a GAA of 1.50. Very impressive  indeed.

The Mustangs went back with Madden Mulawka who gave up 4 goals on 31 shots, with the other goal scored into an empty net.

The Bombers continue to play great hockey and now have points in 10 of their last 11 games and now have a share of first place overall.

Flin Flon is tied for first with the Kindersley Klippers and saw their record improve to 15-7-0-1, good for 31 points and both teams have played 23 games.

Talk about perfect timing, the Kindersley Klippers will come to Flin Flon for a pair of games this weekend. It will be the first meetings of the season between these two clubs. New Head Coach Kyle Schneider has got the Klippers playing some impressive hockey and should be a stiff test for Flin Flon this weekend.

Games will take place this Friday and Saturday night at the one and only Whitney Forum.

The Flin Flon Ski Club will be holding an Open House this Sunday at the Chalet between 11 am and 4pm.

Fresh Air Experience from Prince Albert will be in town with all the latest equipment, clothes and expert  advice on ski stuff.

You will also be able to get your skis hot waxed for the season for $20.00.

Information will be available on all the different programs the FF Ski Club offers including ski and chalet rentals, Women's Night Ski-ing and the 51st annual Centaloppet coming up in the spring, as well as  the Sask Cup Races.

Scott Bateman Middle School in the Pas  will be holding a volleyball tournament with action starting this afternoon.
 

There will be teams competing from all over the North  including McIsaac and Ruth Betts from Flin Flon, Creighton, Cranberry, Swan River, Minitonas and the host team Scott Bateman.

There will be teams competing in both the Boys and Girls Divisions.

Games in the Girls A Division start at 4pm today with the AA Girls and Boys games starting tomorrow at 9am.

Playoffs in the A Girls Division will start Saturday at 2pm with the Championship at 4pm, AA Girls playoffs start Saturday at 2:30 with the Championship at 5:30 . The Boys playoffs also start at 2:30 with the Final at 5:30pm.

After a tough 5 to 2 loss in Warman on Tuesday, the Flin Flon Bombers responded with a 3 to 1 win over the Wolverines last night.

The Bombers thought they deserved a better fate firing 48 shots on Taye Timmerman on Tuesday,  but the former MJHL Playoff MVP was spectacular and was  the difference in the game.

Flin Flon did dominate the contest  and knew that they had to bury their chances last night and were able to do that.

Landon Alexander opened the scoring when he fired a beautiful snapshot just under the cross bar early in the first period past Griffin Wright who got the start in goal.

That carried Flin Flon into the second period and the two local products Joey Lies and Ryder Mucha went to work.

Lies stripped the puck away from a Warman defender and was able to beat Wright with a wrist shot that grazed his shoulder,  and just crossed the line for the eventual game winner. This was Lies team leading 12th of the season.

Mucha was left alone in front of the net just a few minutes later and scored his 6th of the season with a shot low blocker side.

Flin Flon carried a 3 to 0 lead into the third period and Warman eventually  got on the board when their leading scorer Kane Kennedy scored a wrap around goal.

That was the only puck to beat Finn Werner who made his SJHL and Flin Flon Bomber debut and looked very steady with 19 saves on 20 shots as the Bombers collected the win.

Werner was reassigned from Everitt of the WHL, and had only played one game so far  this season,  but looked very confident and tracks pucks very well. Any time he needed to make a big save he did.

Flin Flon fired 50 shots at Griffin Wright and he played well stopping 47, and did a good job holding his team in there.

The Bombers get one of the two wins in Warman and improve to 13-7-1 and are tied with Humboldt for third overall and trail the second place Weyburn Red Wings by a single point. Weyburn does have two games in hand.

A busy week continues for the Maroon and White Express as they will take on division rivals the Melfort Mustangs in a home and home this weekend.

Melfort comes to town on Friday and the Bombers will return the favour on Saturday and that game from the Northern Lights Palace will be broadcast on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.

The U13 Kinsmen return to action this weekend as they prepare to play for the Wescana Inn Cup in The Pas.

The tournament will feature five teams from our northern communities with teams from Thompson, Cross Lake, Norway House, the host Huskies and the Flin Flon Kinsmen Bombers.

 The Bombers will first see action Saturday against Thompson and will also  play Cross Lake and Norway House before finishing round robin action against the host Huskies on Sunday.

 The top two teams after round robin play will compete for the Wescana Inn Cup Sunday afternoon at the Roy H. Johnston Arena.

Thompson is holding the Jack Burden U-9 tournament this weekend with a number of teams from Northern Manitoba taking part including three teams from Flin Flon.

They are McKeens Trucking, Flin Flon Firemen and Flin Flon Ford Lightning.

Games will start on Friday with McKeens playing the Thompson Sundae Sprinkle Queens at 4:45. The Flin Flon Firemen will play the Thompson Blizzard Beauties at 6:05 and the Flin Flon Ford Lightning take on the Thompson Dilly Bar Danglers at 6:20.

Round Robin will continue through Saturday with the different finals starting Sunday at 8:45am. The A-Side Final will be played at 10:45am.

It was a weekend the Flin Flon Bombers won’t forget as they took 4 points from the power house Humboldt Broncos at the Whitney Forum.

Local product Joey Lies also had a weekend to remember picking up 4 points in the 7 to 6 shootout win on Friday. Lies had two goals and two assists and leads the Bombers in goals with 11 and points, 21.

Joey also scored the shootout winner that night and is proving to be a strong force for the Bombers every time they hit the ice.

Flin Flon now unbeaten in their last 7 games, travel to Warman to face the Wolverines in a pair of games tonight and tomorrow.

The U-11 Northland Ford Bombers were in Regina this past weekend for their first tournament of the year.

They finished 2-2 and won the Bronze Medal in the C Division.

In their first game they beat the Prairie Storm Thunder 7 to 4, lost their second game to the Prairie Storm Cyclones 6 to 4 and lost their third game to the Gravelbourg Hornets 9 to 2.

That put them in the Bronze Medal game against the Prairie Storm Lightning and they won 5 to 4.

The U13 Kinsmen Bombers returned home from Humboldt this past Sunday with a fourth place finish.

The competition over the weekend was very tight between all the  teams making for some great hockey action. The Bombers would begin the weekend with a 5-4 shootout loss to the host Humboldt Broncos Friday.

Saturday would see the Bombers play three games in what was a very busy day at the rink. They would drop their first game of the day 5-1 to the Saskatoon Grizzlies and would then suffer a tough 7-5 loss to the Warman Lynx. This would set up the final game on Saturday,  as a must win in order to advance to the playoffs and the Bombers would come out on top 4-0 thanks to a solid effort in net by Eli Chrisp.

The Bombers would finish fourth and set up a rematch with the Grizzlies Sunday morning. The Bombers would fall behind 2-0 but battled back to tie the game,  however the Grizzlies would take a 4-3 lead going into the final minutes of the game. With the goalie out,  the Bombers would tie the game with just over a minute remaining.

Overtime would settle nothing and the Grizzlies would go on to defeat the Bombers in a shootout. Overall,  it was a great weekend of competition and the Bombers will now turn their attention to the Wescana Inn Cup in The Pas this coming weekend.

Congratulations to the Hapnot Queens Senior Volleyball team who are Zone Champions for the 6th straight year.

The Queens were in Cranberry and went 6-0 in the round robin beating Nisichawayasihk, Norway House and the host team from Cranberry.

That would put them straight to the final where they took on MBCI out of The Pas. It was a very exciting final game that went right down to the wire with the Queens taking the first set 25 to 17, lost the second set 22-25 and won the tie breaker 15-13.

This means the Queens will represent the North at Provincials in Somerset November the 26th to the 27th.

The Hapnot Kings hosted the Boy's Zone in Flin Flon and were 5-1 in the round robin beating Nisichawayasihk, St Theresa Point and splitting with Cranberry.

That put them in the semi-final against a very good MBCI team out of The Pas and they dropped both sets 13-25 and 7-25.

MBCI went on to win the Zone beating Cranberry in the final in three sets, 15-25,25-22 and 15-10. Boys's Provincials will be held in Russell, November 26th and 27th.

It was a weekend for the ages for the Flin Flon Bombers who took 4 points against the power house Humboldt Broncos.

The Bombers had to do it coming from behind both nights. On Friday,  the Maroon and White had to come back from two,  3 goal deficits.

New comer Oliver Philips put Humboldt up 2-0 early in the first period before the Bombers Maverick Deslisle responded . It looked like it was going to be the Bronco’s night with veteran Jeter Korte scoring with just 3 seconds left in the opening period to stun the Whitney Forum crowd and make it 3 to 1 after one.

Humboldt kept their foot on the gas pedal and scored a short handed goal early in the frame, when the  Bomber’s  turned  over a puck  just outside their blue line, and  Owen Chapman went in on a break away and scored.

Flin Flon never panicked and answered the short handed goal with a powerplay marker from  Joey Lies , for his team leading 10^th of the season. That goal seemed to spark the team and the crowd.

The Broncos answered just over a minute later when league leader Jacob Strizzi potted his 17^th of the season.

Down three goals once again, you got the sense that the Bombers weren’t out of the game with a considerable amount of time left on the clock. Flin Flon made a goaltending change when Head Coach Mike Reagan decided to let rookie Matt Bradley enter the game for starter Devin Peck. Peck had a tough night giving up 5 goals on 12 shots but didn’t have a lot of help.

Jack Martin would add his 4^th of the year to get the Bombers a little closer at 5 to 3 after two.

Flin Flon came out flying in the third and scored three more times with a pair of goals from Reid Arberry including his second of the night which tied the game with only 44 seconds remaining at 6. The other Bomber goal came from Joey Lies who scored his second of the night and 11^th of the season.

Humboldt got a third period goal from Brayden Skogstad. Over time settled nothing and for the second straight meeting these two teams would have to go to a shoot-out.

Matt Bradley was superb in relief of Peck and stopped 14 of 15 shots in two periods of work and all three shooters in the shoot out,  to help his team collect the victory. Home town product Joey Lies was the only player to score in the shoot out, when he flipped a high shot over Bronco netminder Nick Kotai’s left shoulder to give Flin Flon the 7 to 6 win.

This sent the Whitney Forum into a frenzy including a strong contingent of the  Lies family who were in attendance on Friday.

Flin Flon went back with Matt Bradley between the pipes on Saturday as these two teams squared off for the fourth and final time this year.

Once again Humboldt started strong and grabbed a two nothing lead after one on goals from Logan Flint and Connor Miller. The Broncos did a good job of blocking shots and getting in lanes and not allowing Flin Flon to do much offensively.

The Bombers regrouped and came out and played two sensational periods and eventually got rewarded for their hard work. I am not sure if it was the fact it was Parent’s Weekend or what, but Flin Flon were not going to denied this night.

Flin Flon got the only goal in the second when Nathan Lalumiere jumped on a loose puck in the Broncos crease.

The Bombers kept coming in the third and new comer Daniel Morozov who just got reassigned from the WHL, scored a nice wrist shot from the high slot to get the Bombers within one.

Flin Flon took advantage of a late powerplay and once again Maverick Deslisle was the hero,  firing home his second of the weekend and 8^th of the season.

This stood up as the game winner with the Bombers winning another tight one 3 to 2 to the delight of all the parents and rest of the fans at the Whitney Forum.

Bradley was good again and ended up with 25 saves on 27 shots while Bronco veteran Charlie Tritt suffered the loss giving up 3 goals on 46 shots.

A big weekend in the standings as the Bombers leap frogged the Nipawin Hawks for fourth overall at 12-6-0-1, good for 25 points. Flin Flon is only 4 points behind the league leading Kindersley Klippers and have three games in hand. Humboldt remains second overall at 13-5-0-1.

Next up for the Maroon and White will be there first ever trip to Warman to play the Wolverines who just upset Weyburn in their building on Saturday night.

Games are Tuesday and Wednesday this week at the Warman Home Centre Communiplex and both games will start at 7pm. The Bombers will then play the Melfort Mustangs in a home and home on Friday and Saturday, for a busy week.

The Flin Flon Bombers will get back on the ice tonight after an 8 day break,  as they will host the Humboldt Broncos in a pair of games at the Whitney Forum.

There will be lots of excitement as it is Parent's weekend and there will be lots of families in town to watch their first game at the Whitney Forum.

Humboldt arrives in  Flin Flon red hot, winning their last seven and are currently second overall at 13-4,one point behind first place Kindersley with three games in hand.

The Bombers have been playing some better hockey and are unbeaten in their last 5 and sit at 10-6-0-1 and are tied with Nipawin for fourth overall.

The two teams met earlier in the season in Humboldt with the Broncos winning both games 5 to 3 on October the 7th and a hard fought 4 to 3 win in the shootout on October the 25th.

That was one of the best games I have seen this year with great end to end action and terrific goaltending. If the two teams can take over where they left off the last time they met,  we are in for some really good hockey this weekend.

Flin Flon will have a new addition tonight as they have added 17 year old forward Daniel Morozov who has been reassigned by the Victoria Royals of the WHL. Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan has confirmed that Morozov will be in uniform tomorrow night.

The Bombers have also completed a trade and have sent 18 year old forward Michael Donovan to Way Way of the MJHL for a PDF.

Congratulations to former Flin Flon Bomber Luke Lepper on securing a Division one  scholarship to Stone Hill.

Lepper elected to head out to BC to finish his Junior career with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks and has 10 points in 16 games so far this season.

Lepper spent two years with the Bombers and accumulated 51 points in 98 games and also got a chance to represent the Flin Flon Bombers and SJHL at last years's World JR A Challenge in Camrose.

Stone Hill College is located in Easton Massachusetts and the SkyHawks play in the NCAA Division 1.

We are just one day away from Senior Zone Volleyball.

The Hapnot Queens will be in Cranberry and the Kings will host right here in Flin Flon.

The Kings will face ST Theresa Point at 11am on Friday, then Nisichawayasihk at 3pm and play their final round robin game against Frontier out of Cranberry at 11am on Saturday.

Playoffs begin at 1pm and the final will be played at 3pm.

The U-11 A Peds Threads Bombers are headed to Dauphin for a great weekend of hockey starting on Friday.

There will be teams competing from right across the province with games taking place at Credit Union Place and the Rotary Arena.

Besides the Bombers there will also be teams from ST Adolphe, Brandon, Grand Plains, ST Eustache, Swan River, The Pas, Thompson and the host Dauphin Kings.

The Peds Threads Bombers first game is Friday at 2:30pm at the Rotray Arena against the Swan Valley Stampeders. Flin Flon's second round robin game is Saturday against Brandon at 8am also at the Rotary Arena.

Playoffs begin Saturday at 1pm with the B-Side Championship on Sunday at noon , followed by the A-Side final at 1:45pm

The U13 Kinsmen Bombers are all set for their first tournament  of the season as they will  travel to Humboldt  this  Friday.

The tournament will feature five teams which include the  Flin Flon  Kinsmen Bombers, Saskatoon Vipers, Warman Lynx, Saskatoon Grizzlies and the host Humboldt Broncos.

The Bombers will kick off action Friday night as they battle the Broncos at 8:15 pm. The tournament will have all the  teams playing each other during the round robin and playoffs are set for Sunday starting at 10am.

It is the biggest weekend of High School Volleyball in the North with both the Senior Boys and Girls Zones kicking off on Friday.

The Hapnot Queens who enter the weekend as  the top seed are in Cranberry and will be in a pool with Cranberry, Norway House and Nisichawayasihk.

The Queens will play their first game against the host Frontier Raiders, Friday at 10am. They will then play Nisichawayasihk at 6pm and their final round robin game against Norway House at 9am on Saturday November the 15th.

Playoffs will start Saturday at 2pm.

The Kings will host Boy's Zones in Flin Flon and are in a pool with Cranberry, St Theresa Point and Nisichawayasihk.

The schedule isn't set yet but as soon as it is released we will post on flinflononline.com.

The Creighton Senior Kodiak Girls were in Osler this past weekend for Regional Volleyball action.

These are the top schools right across the province vying for a provincial championship. The Kodiaks qualified after a second place showing at Regionals in Shellbrook the previous weekend.

Creighton met some pretty stiff competition and ended up losing to the host team 25 to 16, 25 to 17 and then dropped both sets to the eventual champions out of Lanigan 25 to 10 and 25 to 11.

It was a very successful season for the Kodiak Girls who now look forward to Basketball season.

The Hapnot Kopper Kings got one more tune up in before Zones as they were in Thompson for the Senior Trojan Northern  Classic.

The Kings went 1-3 in round robin and came fourth in their pool and did not make the playoff round.

RD Parker out of Thompson ended up winning the tournament as they beat Chemawawin in the final in two straight sets.

The Kings will host Zones this weekend while the Queens will travel to Cranberry.

For the first time this season the U-15 AAA Norman Northstars will be playing games at the Whitney Forum right here in Flin Flon.

The Northstars will host the Eastman Selects in a pair of games Saturday at 7pm  and Sunday at 10:30.

There will be a 50/50, silver collection and merch all available.

The Northstars are sitting at 1-10-1 on the season and have three players from Flin Flon including forwards Bentley Crone and Dex Tetlock and defenseman Parker Meikle. 

The Senior Hapnot Kings volleyball team will get one more tune up tournament before hosting Zones next weekend in Flin Flon.

The Kings are in Thompson for the Senior Trojan Classic.

Hapnot is in a pool with Cross Lake, Split Lake, Wabowden and the RD Parker JV'S.

Hapnot's first game is at noon today against Wabowden, then they will play Cross Lake at 1pm, and the RD Parker JV'S at 3pm. The play Split Lake Saturday morning at 9am.

Playoffs will start at 12:30 with the final at 5pm.

A gutsy effort from the Flin Flon Bombers who went into Melfort last night and pulled out a tight 2 to 1 win.

To say it is tough to win in Melfort at the Northern Lights Palace would be a huge under statement,  with Flin Flon only winning 3 of the past 14 games they have  played there.

After a scoreless opening period, the Mustangs took advantage of the only mistake that Bomber netminder Devin Peck made in the entire game.

Peck mishandled a dump in from Mustang forward Keleb Binner, and forward Owen Nelson jumped on the loose puck and fired it home for a 1-0 lead.

The Bombers responded just after a powerplay expired when  Maverick Deslisle  re-directed  a Jared Miskew point shot that went over Madden Mulawka's right shoulder.

Landon Alexander who was one of the best players on the ice scored the eventual game winner with a harmless shot from the corner,  that hit Rhett Ewen in front of the Melfort net and went in.

That was all the offense as both goaltenders were dialled in and made a lot of quality saves. Melfort did  get a great chance to tie the game late  with a 5 on 3 powerplay, and they also pulled the goalie to 6 on 3 with well over a minute remaining.

The Bomber penalty killing unit was sensational winning a ket faceoff and blocking some shots and winning battles to get the puck down the ice and were able to hold off the Mustangs the rest of the way.

Flin Flon fired 34 shots at Mulawka while the Mustangs countered with 27 shots on Flin Flon's Devin Peck.

Peck is really finding his rhythm and is 9-4-1 on the season with a GAA of 2.26 and a Save % of .906.

The Bombers look like they have turned the corner and are now unbeaten in their last 5 games and are 10-6-0-1 on the season and are now tied with the Nipawin Hawks for the division lead with 21 points.

Flin Flon also sits in a tie for third overall with Nipawin and Weyburn.

The Mustangs fall to 7-6-0-2 and are are sitting in 8th spot with Battleford.

The Bombers will get a much deserved break and won't play for 8 days as they don't get back on the ice til November the 14th when they host the Humboldt Broncos.

The Creighton Kodiaks Football team called it a season with their annual Awards and Banquet last night at the Creighton Community Hall.

The event was well attended with parents, sponsors, fans and relatives all coming out to pay tribute to the local football team.

Chicken Chef catered the meal which included a video tribute, speeches, thank you's, salutes to the graduating players and the awards.

This past year's winners included:

Most Improved, Most Dedicated and Defensive Player Of The Year- Myles Kovisto

Special Teams- Brayden Church and Oliver Atchison

Defensive Warrior and  Leadership- Kwinton Lycan

Caleb Janzen Courage Award- Tyson Rae and River Nateways.

Devin Peck stopped 21 shots and was good when he needed to be as the Flin Flon Bombers picked up the 3 to 1 win last night against the Yorkton Terriers at the Whitney Forum.

Once again the Bombers started quickly with Joey Lies picking up his team leading 9th of the season,  just over six minutes into the opening period.

Sam Ward would score on the powerplay at the end of the first period which would put the Bombers up 2 to 0 and stood up as the eventual game winner.

Another powerplay marker by Reid Arberry in the second period  would add a little insurance.

The Terriers finally got a puck past Peck early in the third period when defenseman Zacharay Hertz fired a shot under the bar off the faceoff to give Yorkton some life.

Peck and the Bombers shut down the Terriers the rest of the way and are now unbeaten in their last four games. Flin Flon also snapped Yorkton's three game winning streak.

Specialty teams were huge with the Bombers going 2 for 5 on the powerplay while Yorkton was 0 for 3.

Flin Flon fired 37 shots at Callum Craig who steady and kept his team in it, especially early.

With the win the Bombers leap frog the Terriers for 6th overall with 19 points to improve to 9-6-1, one point behind 5th place Estevan and two points behind fourth place Nipawin.

A good test for the Maroon and White as they head to Melfort tonight to face the defending league champion Mustangs. This will be the Bombers first visit to Melfort and you can hear all the action on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com starting with the Great North GM Coach's Show at 7:10.

The Flin Flon Bombers jump back on the ice tonight as they will host the Yorkton Terriers at the Whitney Forum with puck drop at 7:30pm.

The Bombers are hoping they can build off the momentum of Saturday's 5 to 1 win over Nipawin.

This will be the first meeting between these two teams since Friday October the 24th when the Bombers smoked the Terriers 11-0 right in their own rink. Flin Flon snapped a six game losing streak that night and are now unbeaten in their last three games.

Yorkton has won three straight since the loss to the Bombers  and are a good road team this year at 4-2-1 away from the Westland Arena.

The Bombers are a perfect 5-0 at home and are tied with the Terriers for 7th overall with 17 points. Tonight should be a very interesting matchup with a lot on the line in their third meeting this year, and Yorkton looking for redemption.

Yorkton took the first meeting 5 to 2 back on October the 15th on the strength of 4 powerplay goals, so the season series is 1-1.

Both teams have similar stats with the Bombers scoring 59 goals in 15 games while the Terriers have 56 in 15 games. Flin Flon has given up less goals with 44 compared to 60 surrendered by Yorkton.

It has been a very good rivalry the last several years and tonight should be a great atmosphere at the one and only Whitney Forum. The Bombers want to show that they have turned the corner and get some momentum heading into Melfort tomorrow night.

While the Terriers have a lot to prove against Flin Flon and will be looking for redemption after the blow out loss at home.

It was a great tune up tournament for the Senior Hapnot Queens and Kings Volleyball teams.

Both teams were at the Big Dig Volleyball tournament in Brandon with over 60 teams taking part,  making it the biggest volleyball tournament in the province.

The Queens went 2-4 in the round robin  against some stiff competition and finished third in their pool. They played Niverville in the playoff round and lost both sets 25-14 and 25 -16 to the eventual winners of the tournament.

The Kings went 0-6 in the round robin and lost both sets to John Taylor in the playoffs and were eliminated.

Both teams will now prepare for Zones which will take place the weekend of November the 14th and 15th. The Queens will be in Cranberry and the boys will host here in Flin Flon.

Fans had to wait almost a month to see the Flin Flon Bombers play a home game , but the wait was worth it.

The Bombers skated to an impressive 5 to 1 win over their divisional rivals the Nipawin Hawks on Saturday night at the Whitney Forum.

The Maroon and White pounced on the Hawks early and it was 2-0 before the game was even 5 minutes old.

Jack Martin was able to convert on a beautiful pass from Maverick Deslisle from behind the Hawks net to open up the scoring 1:32 into  the opening period. Landon Alexander made it 2-0 just two minutes later,  when he went to the net and was able to jam a puck past Gage Roberts from his knees.

Konnor Watson having a fantastick season for Nipawin would respond with a powerplay goal when he buried a nice pass from Ashton Tait.

The Bombers kept coming and made it 3-1 with Reid Arberry responding with a powerplay goal of his own, his 7th of the season to restore the two goal lead.

Flin Flon shut the door the rest of the way and would add a couple of insurance goals from Pierce Yakimchuk,  who scored his very first goal of the season and Sam Ward who potted his second as a Bomber.

Ward scored a beauty when he was able to dangle in the Hawks zone on the PP, and snapped a shot just under the cross bar to put the Bombers up 5 to 1 after two.

No goals in the third as the Hawks slowed things down and the final period was tight checking with not a lot of good chances either way.

An impressive display from the Bombers who played a complete game in front of a decent crowd at the Whitney Forum,  despite game 7 of the World Series which would of kept some fans away.

After the win the Flin Flon Bombers will improve to 8-6-1 and are now just two points behind Nipawin for the division lead. The Bombers sit tied with Yorkton for 6th overall,  with the Terriers coming to town tomorrow.

Puck drop is 7:30 at the Whitney Forum and will be broadcast on Flo Sports. Wednesday the Bombers travel to Melfort for the first time this season to tangle with the defending league champs.
